  1. If only they would dedicate perhaps 15 or so minutes of practice time to "simulated game situation" pitching practice. Have a pitcher face a few of the Sox' hitters on the field to determine if he is ready to be thrown into a game that counts. This would also add a bit of "patience at the plate" training that practice in a batting cage does not offer.
  2. Those last two were certainly "feel-good" wins, but let's not lose sight of the fact that the A's had the Sox cornered. Wins like that don't come very often for any team.
  3. Has any team ever been swept in a series by the Devil Rays? Ever? Pardon my ignorance.
  4. "First of all the Sox will not win the East. its either gonna be the Yanks or the O's." The O's probably will be the team to chase this year. They're pretty solid. Yankees? What Yankees? They're already done. They've had their periods af marginality in the past and that's where they will be this year and probably 3 or 4 more. "The Sox are in worse shape then we are. 3 of your starting rotation are in the crapper" Red Sox rotation 'in the crapper' is still better than most other team's rotations on their brightest, fluffiest, sunny wet dream day. Same as LAST YEAR.
  5. If the baseball fairy (no, I don't mean Alex Rodriguez ) came down from the skies and tapped you on the head with a magic wand, and assigned you with the task of changing or adding three rules to major league baseball, what would you do? Here's my 3: 1) Any pitch thrown behind a batter or between the legs of a batter would award first base to the batter, as this is no better or different than hitting him. 2) No more wussy intentional walks. Four consecutive balls thrown by a pitcher will award second base to the batter, even if there is already one or two strikes in the count. Four non-consecutive ball counts will result in the standard award of first base for the batter. 3) Extra innnings will be played in two-inning increments. If a game is tied in the ninth, play will resume through 11 innings. If tied in the 11th, play through 13, etc. etc.
  6. Yeah it seems that a few New Yorkers still have some shutting up to do. THe ones in uniform have certainly set a quiet example.
  7. It's starting to look like the Orioles may have them by the horns this year. A fight for third-place finish between the Yankees and Blue Jays, and a neck-and-neck stretch run between the Sox and Orioles is my prediction for this season. Barely 3 weeks into the season and Steinbrenner is already setting Torre up to be the his scapegoat.
  8. Ummm....
  9. SO..... the Yankees scored 15 runs early. TB already got 8 of them back. I wouldn't bet on it but it will certainly be hilarious if the Yankees blow this one. Especially if Rivera gives up a few moonshots.
  10. Q: How do you recognize a Nuggets fan in a crowd? A: They're the ones with the Bulls tattoos left over from the mid-90's.
  11. "one of the best pitchers" Only when he FEELS LIKE IT.
  12. Oh my gawd it's gonna be a football score.
  13. "I'm gooooooooing, I'm goooooooing....." Guerilla Marketing 101. Two words: SIDEWALK CHALK. The subway exits are good for about 20,000 eyeballs.
  14. Who knows what to expect. He may be a bit rusty. Wouldn't surprise me to see him give up 5 or 6 runs in 4 or 5 innings, but I doubt he'll get torched.
  15. It's too early to be overly concerned about Mr. Wells yet but I think they should keep him on a short leash; they've been way too patient with shooting stars in recent years and they need to run a tighter ship. Sooner or later the wildcard or division title may be decided by one or two games, and the Sox' propensity for letting wounds fester for too long may very well sink the ship.
  16. Anybody seen that mattress commercial where Wakefield throws a pitch to the Furniture Dorf and the ball does a wacky loop around the guy's head? Yeah, bwoy!
  17. "Foulke looked a little shaky" Looked a little drunk to me. Seriously though, he just blew it tonight.
  18. Clash of the GrungeBobs.
  19. Was he pitching for a win or was he pitching for form? Shut up, New York.
  20. I really wonder why they bother to let Rivera take the mound against the Red Sox AT ALL. Sure, it's generally wise to give the ball to somebody who's been as consistent and productive as him, but he has proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that he is the wrong guy against this particular team. Maybe it's a pyschological thing, maybe the Sox have his number. Doesn't matter what or why; there's just a "thing" about him and the Red Sox. We've seen similar phenomena with some of our pitchers. Pedro was largely ineffective against the Yankees over the past few years, while Wakefield often made them look like stumbling drunks.
  21. Yeah you can tell he was definitely struggling to hold back the tears.
  22. Mariano is the Red Sox MVP.
  23. He was a replacement player during the strike, so he doesn't get included in licensed collectible items. Was reading a story today where some video game has all of the other Sox players listed by name but he's replaced with a fictitious character called "Carlos Ahern" or something like that. Maybe Kenticuky Fried Chicken should put his pic on the chicken buckets. Those would pop up on ebay 10 years from now with highest bids going to those that don't have any grease stains.
  24. I don't read lips but I would swear I saw Johnson say "I don't want any part of this guy" to himself before proceeding to walk Millar 4-0.
  25. "Jill.Hannon@gmail.com Please tell Ms. Hannon how much she sucks as well." Ummmm, does she take Paypal or just cash?
