  1. We can't know for sure that he'll return to the Yankees, but drawing a comparison between Sabathia's situation and Lee's situation is pointless.
  2. And here's the comeback. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9obaCnRR0jk&feature=related An all time great performer in the big moment.
  3. Speaking of turning the lights out, if anyone is interested, here's his fourth quarter against the Knicks where he goes back and forth with Spike. What an incredible performance.
  4. Awesome. Let there be baseball.
  5. I don't think the Yankees are worried about CC leaving. He might opt-out, but considering how much he apparently enjoys pitching here and the fact that the Yankees can offer him more money than anyone, I'm sure they're confident they would resign him. I don't think the possibility of CC opting out is going to influence any decisions going forward.
  6. I'm with you when it comes to the NFL. I love all the players on that list. Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, and Troy Polamalu are three others than I can think of off the top of my head. I'm usually partial to defensive players though, and outside of any Giants' players, Ed Reed is my favorite player in the NFL.
  7. If they pay him 300 million dollars, I expect him to play all nine positions at the same time.
  8. A bunch of anecdotal evidence proves absolutely nothing. There are really bad fans on both sides. I can tell you some pretty awful stories about things at Fenway.
  9. Last year they had more options for starting pitchers, and Mitre was pitching well out of the bullpen, so they chose not to move him out of that role. And yeah, if there are better options, obviously they wouldn't use Mitre in the starting rotation. Just like if they had five pitchers better than Phil Hughes, they wouldn't use him as a starter either. It doesn't mean they don't think Mitre can start, it just means they had better options. The reason I bring up Wakefield's age is not to suggest that he'll be injured, but that the grind of a MLB season for a 45 year old might just be too much for him, even if he's not on the DL with a significant injury. All three pitchers, Wakefield, Garcia, and Mitre, are flawed, and I just don't think one is really a good bet to perform better than the others. But we'll find out soon enough.
  10. The Yankees still think of Mitre as a starter, and as you like to point out, the teams are much better at judging these things than we are. And yeah, Garcia's ERA will probably jump over five. But that doesn't necessarily make them worse than Wakefield, who's coming off a year where he posted a 5.71 ERA as a starter and will turn 45 years old during the season.
  11. It's possible that Wakefield will be better than Mitre/Garcia this year, but I was simply disagreeing with the way your initial post was phrased - pencilling in Wakefield for league average production while dismissing the possibility of Mitre/Garcia providing that. As you outlined, things could certainly change in 2011, but Garcia and Mitre were both better than Wakefield last year, so I just disagreed that a statement of such certainty can be justified. EDIT: again, @ Dipre
  12. Why not? 2009: 4.6 WAR, 3.77 FIP 2010: 4.3 WAR, 3.46 FIP Over the last two years, Floyd has been better than Danks.
  13. To the first part, I'd rather have the Red Sox duo, but that wasn't the point I was countering. To the second part, I don't think they would, but I was simply responding to the article that Keeper posted which suggested they should. EDIT: @ Dipre
  14. I wonder if the Yankees could acquire Danks or Floyd without giving up Montero or Banuelos.
  15. Right, I wasn't accusing you of saying that you're above hating anybody.
  16. It doesn't bother me at all, but I was bored with nothing to do and was interested in discussing the point about him naming Clemens.
  17. My 'correct his previous error' comment didn't refer to him forgetting about taking steroids, but rather that he chose not to mention it and decided later on that was a mistake. I'm not saying that's the case, I'm just trying to provide an alternate theory. And your opinion about Pettitte, as it applies to the situation with Congress, seems to be justified by what you perceive his motivation to be, rather than what his actions were. As for Pettitte's person as a whole, sure, all that is reasonable, and I don't take umbrage with you feeling that way. But that part of the discussion simply isn't very important to me, because unless they're committing some egregious acts off the field, what they do in their personal lives is rather unimportant to me. All I ever really cared about with Andy Pettitte was that he pitched well.
  18. Now on the topic of steroids, using steroids is using steroids, regardless of the purpose. But steroid use means nothing to me, so it doesn't affect my opinion of Andy Pettitte, or any other player.
