If you don't want a bunt to break up a no hitter/perfect game, play your corners in, and get the guy out. If you don't want the other team running up the score against you, pitch better, and get the other batters out. If you don't want the other team stealing on you when it's a lopsided score, hold the runner on, and pay attention to him. Unfortunately, due to the direction this thread has taken, I feel the need to qualify all of this with, 'in my opinion', even though that should go without saying. But hey, I'm sitting at my computer, under the age of 30, with my pink hat pulled tightly over my head, so what do I know...

Probably 'Jewish', because it's so fun to perpetuate ridiculous stereotypes! As for the actual topic, I have a hard time standing behind unwritten rules, because of their subjective nature, unless they're unwritten rules because of the potential for injury (such as not straddling second base on a steal attempt).

Yeah, but they spent about three million dollars combined on those players, and they didn't have room for a starter (both Winn and Thames were signed to be backups).

As for the game tonight, overall, a tough a loss. I thought Mitre pitched better than his line indicates, as the first three runs were very soft. They also really felt the weight of their injuries tonight, with Randy Winn hitting in the two biggest spots of the game, and Boone Logan having to get out the heart of the order (including two righties) in a two run game. There were two positives tonight. David Robertson finally had a good outing, but even better, for the first time this year, Joba looked like the 2007 version of himself.

Well these were the first three games of a very tough 20 game stretch. The remaining games are... 4 @ DET 3 vs. MIN 2 vs. BOS 2 vs. TB 3 @ NYM 3 @ MIN After that it gets much easier, but with all the injuries, these next 17 games will be especially tricky.

I'm not convinced the Yankees are going to go strong after Crawford. Assuming they resign Jeter and Rivera at similar rates, they'll probably only have room for one big money free agent. Considering two fifths of their starting rotation is probably leaving (Vazquez and Pettitte), I'd imagine they would want to make a strong at Cliff Lee. They might expand the payroll to try and fit both, but I think they'll make Lee the priority, meaning they could certainly be outbid for Crawford.

Regardless of whether or not Beckett's pitches were intentional (the only one that I think was intentional was when he brushed back Cervelli in the third inning), retaliating is understandable, simply because of how many guys were either hit or knocked down. However, that spot is not the right time for it.

Have to take the good with the bad. As the Red Sox (and their fans) know, it's tough to lose two starters. They might play tomorrow without four regulars (Granderson, Johnson, Cano, and Posada). Basically they have to hope that Posada and Cano get back soon, and that Teixeira and A-Rod heat up. If those things happen they should be OK.
