  1. This should be interesting and not from the money stand point. It's very well known this kid is a gigantic Yankees fan and they have said multiple times on the Sirius XM channel that the going rumor is he is trying to find a way to force his way to the Yankees in the draft (or find a way around it) and is the #1 reason why he will hire and has been consulting w/ Borass.

  3. Penny's numbers over the last 30 days 29.2 innings 3.64 era 1.42 whip 4 BB 24k's 3 quality starts
  4. When you said that he had allowed no earned runs, a run scored on a DP ball with a throwing error, and he just struck out Dobbs. I wouldn't say that was getting "spanked"
  5. Penny's Response: “I don’t give two f***s what Joe Girardi says, I’m coming inside. I don’t care. Anybody can say that. We can say that about the time they hit our guys. I’m just trying to pitch inside. Maybe he should worry about managing and not trying to be the commissioner." “Why wouldn’t he say that the night before? Don’t wait a day, then say it. He should worry about managing and let the umpire crew do their job.” f*** Yes.
  6. "A baseball official told 1050 ESPN Radio in New York that the Yankees called the commissioner's office Friday to ask that Brad Penny be suspended for hitting Alex Rodriguez in the back during the first inning of Thursday night's Red Sox win." Wow.
  7. He threw 56 strikes and 14 balls. The numbers weren't as relevant to Smoltz as was his command. "All in all, today was one of my better outings in terms of getting all my pitches going in the same direction,'' he said.
  8. Great final. Congrats to Billy Guerin
  9. Smoltz's line tonight at Syracuse: 6 IP, 6 H, 4 ER (1 HR), 1 BB, 5 K
  10. Smoltz's line tonight: 6 IP, 6 H, 4 ER (1 HR), 1 BB, 5 K Only threw about 60 pitches.
  11. Not bad, I'd say Teixeira and Youk at 1B though, he has been the best hitter in the league that last month or so, although both Cabrera and Morneau are having great seasons.
  12. The NL is a bunch of pretenders. Pitchers with bats in their hands, interleague can't end quickly enough
  13. The right move today. Over the last last five games, Ortiz is hitting .375 with three homers and a .938 slugging percentage and he is going against a righty in Blanton tonight, while a pair of lefties are pitching Saturday and Sunday. He has also had excellent numbers against Blanton - 6/20, 2 HR, .300 AVG, .975 OPS.
  14. Watching Smoltz pitch in Cuse right now in his last rehab start. Just struck out the side in the 4th. 4 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
  15. Francesa said it best today on WFAN: "The Yankees have played 11 games against elite teams (Phils and Sox), and they are 1-10." "I don't believe in my heart that they are a special team right now. On this date, I don't think they can play that type of baseball in a situation where every at-bat and every out matters." "When the Red Sox need a great at bat or play in the field, they get it. Pedroia's 10-pitch at bat symbolizes the difference between the Red Sox and the Yankees."
  16. Couldn't agree more. Girardi does not know how to handle pressure situations. Torre thrived under them; Girardi seems confused and uncertain. How telling is it that Girardi would rather have C.C. out there at 100+ pitches in the 8th than a fresh reliever? He should have pulled the plug when Pedroia walked, bring in Coke to face Drew, hope for a DP or a strike out. Coke has been pretty good this year and I think he deserved it. Fun Fact: New York scored a total of 8 runs this week at Fenway and was 3-for-28 with RISP. This series (along with the past 2 between these teams) exposed the Yankees for what they are: a very good team that has holes.
  17. That 10 pitch Pedroia AB was undoubtebly the turning point of the game. I love that he was shouting to the bench as he was walking to first. You don't ever really see anyone pumped over a walk, but he was, and rightfully so.
  18. High praise for Francona to staple Lugo to the f***ing bench in this series. Nick Green came up huge tonight.
  19. Keith Law. He is the senior baseball analyst for Scouts Inc. He was also special assistant to the general manager of the Blue Jays and was a writer for Baseball Prospectus.
  20. Zac (San Diego): Thoughts on some of the early second day picks of the Sox? Who's likely to sign out of some of the Younginer, Volz, Jacobs, Kline type picks? Thanks Klaw:As usual, I love their draft. Kline is the least likely to sign. Volz would seem to have the least leverage and be most likely to sign - stick him in the pen and let him go. Henry (Columbus): Since you don't do grades, care to give a team you thought has had the best draft so far? Just one team... Klaw: Red Sox.
