  1. victor martinez please.
  2. Ricciardi told the Toronto Sun "it is unlikely Halladay will be traded"
  3. Sox have a surplus of starting pitching, they could deal Penny for a B prospect. The Phillies or Brewers come to mind, who are short on starters, especially since neither will trade the farm away for Halladay IMO. The Phils, especially, would be reluctant to part with young talent for Doc now, now that they've won 12 of 13. The Phils already stated they wouldn't trade Kyle Drabek, and the Brewers wouldn't part with Escobar or Gamel which would need to be centerpieces for a Halladay deal. Also, there's a 99% chance the Sox would not offer Penny arbitration after the season, so they could deal him now to get something in return. Trading him now would be the surest way of obtaining talent in return.
  4. I heard Mike Francesa say something along those lines on WFAN on Monday. Sorry, no link.

  6. I dont think the Mets can add salary. There owners have been hit hard in the $$$ department
  7. Tomorrow's game isn't on FOX. Just because it's a saturday afternoon game does not mean it is on FOX. For those keeping score at home, it will be on NESN and SNET.
  8. http://www.boston.com/sports/hockey/articles/2009/07/12/goal_to_make_it_to_broadway/?page=4 The Ducks and Bruins once might have discussed a Kessel-for-Bobby Ryan swap per globe. Not sure why the ducks would do that, maybe they saw Kessel as having a better upside? I'm guessing this was before Ryan had the Calder-finalist type year that he had last year. Brian Burke could possibly have been persuaded to swap Ryan for Kessel when he was Anaheim's GM, as he has tried to trade for Kessel this offseason. But for the sake of discussion, if savard turned Kessel into a 36 goal scorer, Bobby Ryan would break 50 in his first full nhl season in 09-10 if they were traded. Bobby Ryan scores from everywhere and uses his size to create opportunities. As good as Kessel was this past year, watching Ryan was something else. He is a rare talent.
  9. I think Gillette would actually make more sense where they can seat twice as many people and better viewing angles but Gillette doesn't have the history of Fenway, not to mention they may very well be playing football in January. I went to the Winter Classic in Buffalo and liked the "feel" of the Buffalo game a lot more than the Chicago one. Gillette would be better, but for obvious reasons it has to be at Fenway. A game at Fenway gets a lot more attention nationally than a game at Gillette. It would be awesome to have a BU-BC/Flyers-Bruins double header. Found this interesting: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/What-We-Learned-Boston-s-Winter-Classic-will-be?urn=nhl,176170
  10. It's in the Fenway section (of Boston), isn't it? Then call it Fenway Park. - John I. Taylor
  11. I thought he was a little over rated. He was just never a d man you noticed on the ice doing anything great. Granted I don't spend too much time watching the Bruins or Rangers because of morons like Avery, Zherdev, Redden. He got a good rap because of one real productive season with the Coyotes but after that the scoring disappeared. Might be a good 5 or 6 dman for the habs.

  19. Ariza verbally agrees to deal with Rockets. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4303862
  20. Will Ian Kinsler hold off Dustin Pedroia at second base? As of the last AL update on Tuesday, Kinsler held a lead of fewer than 7,000 votes, but over the past 72 hours of exclusive online balloting, Pedroia has received 20 percent more votes than Kinsler. Will Kevin Youkilis make it four straight years for a Red Sox first baseman to be voted the AL starter? Yankees rival Mark Teixeira is making a strong bid to end Boston's run by garnering 17 percent more online votes than Youkilis over the past 72 hours in hopes of closing a 40,000-vote gap. Can Jacoby Ellsbury leapfrog three players in the scramble to earn the final starting spot in the AL outfield? The most recent update had Josh Hamilton of Texas leading the way in the bid to join front-runners Jason Bay of Boston and Ichiro Suzuki of Seattle, but over the past 72 hours of online voting, Ellsbury has received at least 16 percent more votes than the other three challengers -- Hamilton, Torii Hunter of the Angels and Carl Crawford of the Rays.
  21. Recchi returns to Boston for 1 year, $1 mil. Good Contract for the B's. Recchi can still produce in the league and it isn't much of a risk for the Bruins to sign him.
  22. Habs sign Cammalleri. 39 Goals and 43 Assists last year for Calgary. Gomez, Spacek, Gill, and Cammalleri... Man.. Habs are spending some $$$, but they had a ton of room, like 25 million. They did lose Lang, Koivu, Tanguay, possibly Kovalev, Higgins, Schneider....Gomez is average making elite money, while Cammy is getting market value. IMO they're no better today than last season
