I doubt it will be Tavarez since he is the only one with a two year deal.
Salary owed (for cutting/releasing purposes like Embree last year)
Tavarez--6.7M (includes both years)
Seanez--2.1M
Riske--1.80M
Foulke--7.25M +1.5M buyout (8.75M total)
Timlin--3.50M
Hansen makes 1M/year and Delcarmen, Dinardo, Lester, Pauley, Alvarez, Papelbon, Van Buren, etc all make the minimum 326,000/year.
Tavarez got that 2 year deal because of his past accomplishments. When he is asked to start an inning and only pitch 1 inning, he has been great. When he is asked to mop up after Seanez and all of his walks/mistakes, then Tavarez does poorly. When he is asked to pitch more then 2 innings Tavarez struggles with that as well. He has had a long and successful career, I wouldn't be so hasty as to throw him away. I would be more inclined to say goodbye to Seanez first, then Foulke. Riske is the same as Tavarez, pretty much, he needs to start an inning clean. If you look at the last couple of years, if not beyond that, all of the relievers we have had, have done a terrible job coming into a game with inherited runners on base. I don't know why that is but last year we were one of the worst in all of baseball, in regards to inherited runners scoring. Even Timlin was pretty poor at shutting other teams down. I wonder if it's a MENTAL thing with the whole team?
