  1. I can see Buchholz being on the table for Adrian Gonzalez or Halladay, but no other targets are worth it.
  2. JP is asking for at least 4 top prospects from every team who has inquired about Doc. I think he wants even more than Buchholz & Kelly. My guess is JP would ask for Buchholz, Bard, Kelly, and Navarro?
  3. I'm not sold on Kessel. But, even though his point totals were surely inflated this past season, he still potted 36 goals which should count for something. No one is going to give him an offer sheet this early. At this point Boston could match it and still trim salary, a week before the season and it's not as easy to do that. He's a good player but I wouldn't mortgage the future on him just yet. I think people are being very cautious with the big offer sheets. Penner is the gold standard of why you should be careful of what you are signing. He had a great season, will he be able to maintain that pace though and is he worth the money AND the picks that it would take to get him?
  4. I use my friends MLB TV subscription who goes to school in DC and they get all the O's games there.
  5. I'm blacked out of the Sox game, so H.O.F. inductions it is.
  6. He did say his goal is to wear pinstripes at SOME POINT in his career. I would assume he wouldnt sabotage his leverage by telling 29 of the 30 not to draft him Sidney Crosby said the same type of thing about playing for the Canadiens before his career started and its not gonna happen anytime soon.

  8. Morris signs with B's 1yr 3.3 mil http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=285661 Man, i thought he'd get 2.5 at the most....good player though
  9. Towers just released a statement, "We'd prefer to keep Adrian and surround him with no talent whatsoever. We will not discuss a trade for him. This way, he can continue hitting .192 since June and cripple his trade value with each passing day. As a team going nowhere fast, we feel this is the best for Adrian, the Padres organization, and the 7 fans we have left in Petco"
  10. Buster Olney reporting ESPN950 radio that Phillies & Halladay trade will happen and includes pitching prospect Kyle Drabek.
  11. The Padres do NOT need Lars, they have their own 1B in the top 50 prospects who is currently playing in the OF due to Adrian. They will command at least Buchholz, then a few between Reddick, Bowden, Delcarmen, Kelly, Masterson
  12. Would you rather have Holliday?
  13. He is also their BEST trading chip on a team that needs to rebuild. As Peter Gammons said, "Considering Boston's young pitching and the Padres' lack of it . . . a multi-prospect deal for Adrian Gonzalez makes sense for both teams. The Padres' ownership is worried about the public perception if the team traded away Gonzalez. Fans? What fans?"
  14. No one has to make any deal, did we HAVE to DFA Lugo? No ... but it was common sense. Common sense now tells you that by the time the Pads contend Gonzo will be in his mid 30s. The Padres need to trade for high upside pitching. They should trade for as much pitching as they can, ala the Florida Marlins. What team has a surplus of young pitching, more than any team in the ML? The Red Sox ... and it just so happens we could use a corner infielder and an impact bat with Lowell's hip problems. Buchholz, Masterson, Lars, Reddick/Kalish ... offer that now. The Padres won't have another winning team for AT LEAST 5 years, so it doesn't make sense to keep Gonzo on a team that won't win for half a decade. The longer you wait, the more his value goes down, and the less you would get in return because of the team's control over him and a contract extension.
  15. In a nutshell: Buchholz will be traded for an "impact bat"
  16. So you keep 1 guy with no other protection around him in the lineup and on a team that will not contend for years and decline a potential ace, 1B who projects to be a Justin Morneau type, and another OF with some power potential as well. That is the perfect recipe for a rebuliding team. The Pads want young pitching and they know the Red Sox have it. If it takes 3-4 prospects to get Halladay, the same can be said for Gonzo. It will not take 8 players. That is ridiculous.
  17. Look at it this way, I don't see Buchholz staying here in the long term because I do think he is a vaulable trading chip to acquire an impact bat that we desperately need in this lineup that can upgrade the Sox not only this year, but for several years to come (Ex. Hanley, Gonzo) which is another reason I don't see us trading for Doc.
  18. If I'm Towers I ask for: -Clay Buchholz -Lars Anderson -ONE of Bard/MDC/Masterson -ONE of Reddick/Westmoreland The Padres can expect a monster haul for him. He's so cheap, and so good, that teams will pretty much need to overpay.
  19. laroche in the lineup tonight?
  20. bowden and kalish/reddick for v-mart or a-gonz
  21. The Bruins are getting close to the cap and could be in the same boat the Blackhawks are in soon. They still have to re-sign Kessel this year and Wheeler, Rask, and Lucic next year. They probably will will lose Marc Savard after this season in order to keep the young guys. The way I see it, they're pretty much asking teams to offer Phil Kessel an offer sheet, because they won't match it. I bet Kessel wants the kind of money that will get the 4 1st round picks for the Bruins. The Bruins don't want to pay that much.
  22. what the hell is ortiz doing? andrus could have left the park to have a cup of coffee and still made it back in time
