  1. I said "Major League Pitcher."
  2. In addition to signing Samsonov, the Habs also signed David Aebischer, aquired forward Mike Johnson from the Coyotes and sent Zednik to the Capitals. This is a big move for the Habs, but it's putting all your eggs in one basket. Samsanov never scared me as a Bruin, and won't scare me as a Hab. Samsonov and Kovalev will be the go to guys, Johnson is a solid player that will fill a 2nd line role, but it's the Samsonov-Koivu- Kovalev show as far as I'm concerned. I see Montreal battling for 3rd place if Koivu stays healthy, they can't win without him. If he or Huet goes out for a significant time period Montreal falls with them.
  3. The guy is senile I would love to know the major league Pitcher he thinks he could get a hit off of
  4. What an arrogant s***.. http://sports.espn.go.com/minorlbb/news/story?id=2516986 Strikeout makes man, 83, oldest pro baseball player SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- No one in the bleachers at the Sioux Falls Canaries game was quite sure what was going on down on the field. They were all quiet, wondering and transfixed on the little old man digging into the batter's box. "Guys my age, it's no challenge. They're throwing like, what, 40, 50 mph? I'd rather hit pitches that are 90 mph and feel good about myself. If I could just get four at-bats in the majors, I could get a hit." The infielders moved up on the grass, giggling, and pitcher looked as uncomfortable as anyone else would have felt. But to 83-year-old Jim Eriotes, it was serious business. Eriotes led off Tuesday's game for the Canaries against the St. Joe (Mo.) Blacksnakes and took four big swings -- even fouling a pitch off -- before striking out. The at-bat made Eriotes the oldest man to ever play professional baseball. It was his only at-bat in the game. The record didn't mean much to the Chicago native and former minor leaguer. "I don't give a damn about that stuff," he said, bothered by his failure to reach base. "If I got a couple more at-bats, I'd get a hit. Easy." He wasn't kidding. Eriotes said he had hit pitches thrown harder than the 83-mph fastball he whiffed against Blacksnakes starter Jesen Merle. He has appeared on the "Today" show and said he has hit pitches near 100 mph -- although they were hurled by a pitching machine. He did admit that stepping into the box with a professional on the mound is a different story. "He wasn't throwing that hard," he said. "I fouled one off. You can be the best hitter in the world and you might not get a hit if you only get one chance. But it was a great opportunity. It was cool." Spectator Derek Johnson, 27, already had bought his ticket for the game before knowing about Eriotes. But he said he made sure to arrive on time after hearing about the 83-year-old. "I could not believe he actually got a piece of one. That's better than I could do," he said. But Johnson's friend Dean Faynor thought the gimmick was excessive. "I don't know, man, a real game? That's kind of bush," he said. Former major leaguer Chad Hermansen made sure the Canaries won. Ralph Santana singled and stole second after Eriotes' at-bat, and Hermansen quickly followed with a two-run homer. He later added a double and another homer as the Canaries defeated the Blacksnakes, 5-3. Hermansen got a good laugh out of his new, and now former, teammate. "We didn't really know what to expect until we saw him hanging out in the dugout," Hermansen said. "As long as it didn't affect the game, I guess." But don't expect to see Eriotes in any senior leagues. He's only interested in facing the best. "Guys my age, it's no challenge," he said. "They're throwing like, what, 40, 50 mph? I'd rather hit pitches that are 90 mph and feel good about myself. If I could just get four at-bats in the majors, I could get a hit." 4 AB's..huh? He might break a hip getting out of the box.
  5. Two friends of mine received this e-mail (each from different sources) and I think there may be something to this, even tho she is denying it. The e-mail: Well, the reason Pronger's wife wants to leave Edmonton is not b/c she hates the city or the people. Apparently Pronger got a female beat reporter who covers the Oilers pregnant. Christy Chorley is her name, and she told Prongs half way through the season. This is why it would be difficult for the Pronger family to settle down in Edmonton. Even in his Agent's press conference last night, he said "There is a very pressing issue that would make it nearly impossible for the Prongers to remain in Edmonton." And guess what, their kids are not sick and neither are their parents. This Chorley chick has a website, she is fairly hot. So in retrospect I am not that mad at Prongs or his wife for that matter. Prongs would not be able to focus on hockey and his home life would be difficult. The reporter's website: http://www.christiechorley.com christy chorley sounds hot. almost sounds like a porn star
  6. he made that hit in game 1, they had all series to do that
  7. The first thing you learn in hockey...ALWAYS KEEP YOUR HEAD UP! if you get hit in open ice, I guarantee you will fall down. It was a legit hit with the shoulder (no elbow) and hopefully Umberger learned his lesson and doesn't drop his head next time Campbell is 5'11" had is arms down and didn't jump. RJ I believe is 6'1". This is a fast and violent game that unfortunatly leads to injuries. There was no intent to injure that isn't Campbell's game. Is it Campbell's responsibility to not throw the hit? 1. It wasn't a dirty hit. I don't care how you spin it, it wasn't dirty. 2. It wasn't a hit to the head. Shoulder to shoulder pretty much, RJ's head just happened to smack off the ice. 3. It wasn't a hit with intent to injure, it was just a great open ice hit. 4. It's RJ's fault that he put himself in that position, well that and the pass itself. RJ has his head down, and he got clobbered, so as far as him being defenseless, sorry but that is his fault for not keeping his head up. It was just a great hit. You can't take the hitting out of hockey, especially on clean hits like that. It was a great open ice hit, no debate there, stupid pass by Dimitrakos.
  8. http://www.nhl.com/news/2006/07/277188.html Schedule is out.
  9. I doubt Zagrapan will make the roster this year, maybe next year though. So we have 1 empty D-Man spot? I wouldn't be surprised if Max is traded before the season starts though. And if so Paille or Novotny could take his spot. Also, I read somewhere that the Panthers have been in serious talks with the Sabres about Biron.
  10. unavailable. papi saves arods ass...mvp!
  11. Wright still has some magic left from last night.
  12. Bud is an idiot How can you tell a team that they cant pitch someone when they want b/c they have to be ready for an "All Star game". You are going to see some backlash from players and teams on that rule if it ever goes down. I could see some pitchers just saying I'll pitch Sunday and I'll skip the ASG
  13. Campbell resigns a multi-year deal for the Sabres. http://www.sabres.com/newsarchive.cfm?id=570 Campbell should be given a lifetime contract for the hit on Umberger, that was one of the greatest moments in Sabres history. Being at the game, I'll remember it for the rest of my life. As per WGR's website, Soupy got a 2 year deal worth $3 million. Just for kicks,
  14. NHL Schedule Release: Wednesday July 12th http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=2353 I would love to start off the season with a game against the Hurricanes. Edit: WGR confirmed that the Sabres will open in Raleigh on Oct. 4
  15. Bruins sign BC star Collins http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2516391 Chris Collins was a superstar this past season at Boston College. He was a finalist for the Hobey Baker award, the award for the best college player. This kid is going to be good, though i'm not sure how long it'll take him to climb through the ranks. nor do i understand the reasoning why he wasn't in the draft.
