  1. The Red Sox are 8 games behind and Fenway still has a packed crowd.
  2. And now Schilling is hurt and will miss his start against the ChiSox on Monday. Just shut down all of the starters that we need for '07, and call it a year. Link With the freak injuries happening to us, the next thing that's going to happen is a foul ball into our dugout which is going to take out someone really important...
  3. Well, considering that we beat Lilly and Halladay without those same players in our lineup, he's got a point...
  4. Not very well. Although I do remember 1 or 2 seasons ago he had a pretty disgusting catch robbing someone of a home run in Cinci.
  5. If they go after Lugo, with the money he's going to want, they won't be able to bring in the arms that we need.
  6. Yeah, the only reason I'm rooting for the Padres is because of Wells. I don't have any attachment to them except for Wells, so they're nothing special to me. I don't really have a second favorite team, it's really just whoever plays the Yanks or whoever has an ex-Sox guy that I lots of respect for. Wells could have called it quits this season, some never thought he'd pitch again, and now he's going to San Diego and is going to pitch well out there for them and help them to the playoffs. I'm really very proud of him. I wish him the best.
  7. It's unfortunate because I really wanted the Pats to go after Lelie when it was clear that he wanted out of Denver. Maybe a Branch/Lelie swap would have worked out? I'm sure Denver would have loved it (when you think of a receiving core of Walker-Smith-Branch), but I doubt Branch would want to go there. Especially considering the fact that he wouldn't be the number 1 receiver there and would most likely be utilized as a 3. Speaking of which, who's the number 1 receiver in Denver, See Red? Walker or Smith? Talent-wise I'd say Walker, but Denver might be loyal to Smith and make him the number 1. I'm not sure.
  8. Wow. Best of luck to Lester, and I pray that he pulls through. He's got the support of all of Red Sox Nation along with, I'm sure, the rest of baseball fans around the world. Doesn't matter what team you play for, when it's something like this the uniform doesn't mean much.
  9. Wouldn't mind them signing Francisco Cordero to set up for our closer in '07. I wouldn't mind signing Meche either, and watching Lester develop out of the bullpen (Breslow and Lester would be nice to have as lefties).
  10. I know. My point was that we don't have to trade him to you guys if you don't like what we're demanding. We can shop him around and someone's likely to bite. You said this: In response to this: You made it sound like if the Pats didn't get a trade done with the Jets, then there would be no Branch or anything in '06 for the Pats. My point was that there are 30 other teams to shop him around with, and if nothing gets done, then it's not the end of the world for the Pats. Besides, like someone said, I don't understand why he's holding out. WRs have no leverage in this situation and if he wanted to return for the final 6 weeks, you know just as well as I do that Belichick won't even put him on the game roster, thus making him ineligible for unrestricted free agency in '07. I know it wouldn't be good for anyone and the Pats wouldn't get anything out of it, but it would send a clear message to him and his agent. However, I've always thought that the Pats need to grow a pair and give him the damn money. They let Givens go because they wanted to be able to pay Branch, so pay him!
  11. Did you forget that there are 30 other teams? One of them would be willing to part with something good for someone like Branch.
  12. We don't have to trade him to you. If you want him that bad, then give us what we want.
  13. It doesn't say anything about him being DFA'd...
  14. That had to end sometime...
  15. Well, I've gotten behind the Padres (unfortunately for you, I know you're a Dodgers fan as well ), only because of Wells going there, who I have tremendous respect for after this season. I'm right on board with you about signing Schmidt. What do you think about Matsuzaka, the WBC MVP as well as, most likely, the biggest signing of this upcoming off-season? If we were to get Schmidt and Matsuzaka, acquire some sort of closer (I wouldn't give the closers role to Gagne because he's had too many injuries and problems), and moved Papelbon to the rotation, our rotation would look like the following: Schilling Schmidt Papelbon Matsuzaka Beckett I don't know how they would order the pitchers, but any way that you spin it that's a sexy rotation. I would also give Lester (I pray that these tests that he's undergoing come up clean and that he's able to pitch for us in '07) a spot in the rotation so we could have 2 lefties out of the 'pen in DiNardo and Lester. What do you think of that plan? No Zito in there.
  16. Well, I'm sure he would if he finished in Boston. I wouldn't be surprised to see him give it one more year since he's back in San Diego, especially since he's pitching very well again.
  17. The front office realizes that this season is over, so instead of watching Wells retire at the end of the season without getting anything in return, it made sense to get what we could from a contender. Basically, we got something for Wells as opposed to nothing if he stayed.
  18. This is the greatest thing I've seen in a long, long time. What took you so long to make another gamethread?
  19. Great play by Pedroia to end the game. Sox win?
  20. I didn't mean to "hammer" you, just wanted to explain my opinion on Zito. I wouldn't mind adding Gagne to the bullpen, but I'd sign him to a salary based largely on incentives with the recent problems he's been having (which, IMO, is a result of steroid use. I never get on players for using steroids, but the only 2 players which I talk about with steroids are Gagne and Oliver Perez). I'd sign Francisco Cordero to set up for Papelbon, and Linebrink wouldn't be a bad addition to just have out of the bullpen. If the Sox are willing to pay the kind of money that it's going to take to sign Zito, then they should go after Matsuzaka instead. I like the Schmidt idea.
  21. Damn. Oh well, it still counts.
  22. I could be watching, but I'm on gameday. What happened?
