  1. Last I heard, he was going to pitch another simulated game on Friday in Philly, then go on 2 rehab starts. SO, he'd need 4 days off (probably) before he could start again. So he could probably start on Tuesday, then again next Sunday, then more rest. I say best case senario Schilling comes back in 2 weeks. That would actually put him back right about on schedule since he's been planning on coming back right before the All Star break. It'd be nice to get him a start and have him available for the Yankees after the break.
  2. Actually, I hate to be a nitpicker (haha) but the D-Rays and Yankees will hook up again tomorrow (it's a 4 game set) so the Rays would have to win tomorrow to make that statement true. Best case senario for the Yankees is a split against the D-Rays.... That's still pretty bad.
  3. I really don't see why the Red Sox would go after Kotsay. Coming from Oakland, he won't be cheap talent wise, and the current center fielder-- Johnny Damon, has been one of the best players on the team so far. Like Cajun said they can shift Manny, Ortiz, and Damon around, but that seems highly unlikely right now. The Red Sox have much bigger problems than Manny/Millar/Damon, and that's the bullpen!
  4. Is Adam Stern even ready to play baseball yet? Last I heard he was still DLed. Although I will admit I haven't heard a damn thing in awhile about him. I'd love to see Stern on the big club because he's supposed to be very fast.
  5. I don't think Randy's done. He clearly isn't as dominant as he was last season, but he's far from finished. He was actually looking pretty good in June before his bad outing last night. After all the crap we've given him this year, last night was easily his worst of the season and the only outing in which he didn't pitch at least 6 innings. At 7-5 with a 4.02 ERA, Randy's overall numbers aren't horrible. His strikeouts/9 are down (8.21) and his batting average against is up (.256) from previous years, so it would seem like he's in the decline. That being said, his K's/9 is STILL better than ANY Red Sox starter. His 4.02 ERA is higher than only one starter-- Matt Clement. (Bronson Arroyo also has a 4.02 ERA, and coincidentally enough-- a .256 BAA). If I were Torre I'd still start Randy Johnson over any of my other starters (although I'd give Mussina a look, he's got only 6.3 K's/9 and a BAA of .278) in a must win situation.
  6. Considering that we dealt Fossum to Arizona in the Curt Schilling deal, I say we did alright with that deal. Kim was acquired for Shea Hillenbrand
  7. But the cocky little ******** knew what he was doing when he decided to have Boras represent him.
  8. First of all, what the hell are you talking about? Since when does my assertion that my "deam" rotation being the deepest in baseball have anything to do with Cy Young or Walter Johnson? Show me the evidence that suggests a HEALTHY Schilling can't come back and be the ace and anchor of this staff. Clement's been our best pitcher, but how is that SAD? 8-1, 3.48 is pretty damn good. Better than any Yankee pitcher this season. Wade Miller has had exactly one bad outing this season and has been very good besides. He's shown no lingering effects of the injury he suffered last season. I'll give you the fact that Schmidt has been hurt this season and has struggled, but he's been one of the best pitchers in BASEBALL the past few years. Of course, an ignorant Yankee fan need not bother to read the whole post, but I put Schmidt's health and even went so far as to say IF HE REGAINS HIS FORM he'd be a great addition. I f**king hate Yankee fans, and this is exactly why.
  9. Wow, there's a lot of bitterness in here. LightsOut-- Welcome to the site. Hope you bring more to the boards than the typical Yankee fan, who very often comes in here, spouts some ignorant stuff, gets blasted, and never comes back. We've had very few (as a matter of fact I can't think of one) Yankee fans who've added value to the site. I agree with the folks who think Schilling talks too much trash. Yes, he absolutely has the right to say whatever he wants, but does that mean he should? Almost every day, you can think of something you hear (or say yourself) that best goes UNSAID. A lot of times Schill's comments fall in that category IMO. Look at the respectable Red Sox players who respect the Yankees and get that kind of respect back: Varitek, Mueller, Damon to name a few. Personally, I'd like to see Schilling get back on the mound and let his game do the talking.
  10. Randy Winn If Chip turns into this kind of player, I certainly wouldn't mind. Nothing spectacular, but a lot of doubles and enough speed to steal 20+ bases as a starter. Definately as good if not better 4th outfielder than someone like Payton.
  11. it really pisses me off that YANKEESRULE only posts here when his team is winning. He came up missing when the Yankees were getting beat up by KC, Milwaukee, Minnesota, and St. Louis. The Yankees are not finished in my opinion. The big difference between now and years past however is that nobody's scared of the New York Yankees. Every single one of their starters has proven to be vulnerable, and the offense isn't as prolific as it was made out to be in March. In Mussina, Johnson, and Pavano they have a strong top 3 pitchers. They still have Rivera, who is still a very good closer. Right now I honestly believe this is division could be won by any of the top 3 teams (Baltimore, Boston, New York), because all teams are capable of dominating opponents but also have big holes. It should be a really fun second half because this is shaping up to be a 3 team race. The Red Sox have got to get their starters in order very soon.
  12. Gammons from ESPN has said the Red Sox believe Ambres could fill the 4th outfielder spot and are actively trying to accomidate Jay's request to be traded. Chip has looked very capable in Pawtucket this year (.310/.421/.562) and I don't see anything in the numbers that are problematic. He's hitting for average, power, taking pitches, getting on base, and stealing bases once he gets on. This is easily his best season in the minor leagues so far, but he's shown stolen base ability, decent plate discipline, and a little bit of power throughout his career. To me (and I know that I'm no Zenny), it looks like he's ready to at least get a shot at the 4th outfielder job in Boston.
  13. I agree with Soxie for once. As much as I'd love to see Schmidt in a Red Sox uniform, I don't think it's worth giving up Bronson. He's proven he can be a solid pitcher both in the rotation and in the bullpen, and is one of the younger arms on the staff. The fact that Gammons said the Sox didn't like what they saw doesn't bode well. He could be still recovering from his injuries regaining his command though. Schmidt was one of the top pitchers in baseball 2002-2004, and if he can pitch at that level, he'd ABSOLUTELY be worth Payton, Embree, and a prospect even at $8.1 million in my opinion. A Schilling, Wells, Clement, Schmidt, Miller rotation would easily be the best and deepest in the game, and it would make the bullpen that much stronger having added Arroyo and Wakefield. It's a dream right now, but certainly something to keep an eye on.
  14. We need Wade Miller to step it up after his poor outing against the Cubbies last weekend. The one thing that worries me is that Wade Miller has 4 walks and 4 strikeouts in June. His K's per 9, which was always above 7 with Houston, is 5.49 so far this season. The optimist would say we haven't seen the best of Wade Miller yet. The pessimist says Wade Miller isn't as good as he was in Houston. Time will tell which will be the case, I'm leaning toward the first. Josh Fogg gives up a limited number of runs despite the fact that he doesn't dominate. Opponents are hitting .276 against him this season and his K's/9 are even worse than Miller's at 4.46 Lefties destroy him (.336/.400/.612) so the Red Sox should handle him just fine with Damon, Nixon, Ortiz, Varitek, Bellhorn, and Mueller... this might be a good day to give Olerud the start given the dramatic righty/lefty splits. The Red Sox really should win this game.
  15. It would be nice to get out from under that contract, but didn't the Padres give us some cash in that deal as well? How close is Adam Stern? I realize he won't be quite the player Payton is, but he's faster, and should have no problems being the 4th outfielder. What other options do we have for outfielder #4? Folks who hate Bellhorn for his K's would probably try to assasinate George Lombard.
  16. Jay Payton told the Boston Herald he wants out. This article makes him out to be pretty unhappy: http://redsox.bostonherald.com/redSox/view.bg?articleid=89760 With the Red Sox looking for help in the bullpen, could he net us a solid arm? Like with Dave Roberts, I imagine Theo will accomidate him. Thoughts on where the Sox can send him, or what we could get in return?
  17. It's true, some Red Sox fans (and media) have an unhealthy obsession with the Yankees, but look at their track record. They've struggled before and rebounded, and why should 2005 be much different? They've got a talented bunch. I admire what Baltimore has done to date, and honestly-- I HOPE they stay in the race all season long. It will make those games in September a lot more interesting. I'm just not sure they will maintain that level of play all season long. Ponson and Cabrera have been very inconsistent this season, and while Lopez has dominated the Red Sox over his career, and pitched well this year, he's had at least 5 starts this season where he's given up 5 or more runs. Bruce Chen has really been the most consistent pitcher, and he's a journeyman who could finally be realizing his potential-- or he could fizzle in the second half. If Eric Bedard can come back from his injury as strong as he was before it the O's will have a decent 1-2-3, but I still think Boston's rotation (when all arms are healthy) of Schilling, Wels, Clement, Miller, Arroyo, Wakefield is a lot stronger, and deeper than Lopez, Bedard, Chen, Ponson, Cabrera. The Orioles will be one team buying at the trade deadline, but it remains to be seen what kind of talent will be available this season. Welcome to the site.
  18. Yep. I'd be very surprised if the Sox made a serious run at Mueller for much more than the MLB minimum. I really like the guy don't get me wrong, but like Sizlin says, I don't see that knee holding up under the everyday pounding for too much longer.
  19. Hillenbrand pretty much burned his bridges when he left Boston in 2003, I don't imagine the Red Sox even considering bringing him in. Plus, is he any better than Kevin Millar? Teixeira and Morneau are cornerstones of their respective organizations, and I doubt they'd be traded. Frank Thomas wouldn't solve the 1B situation because he's been DHing the entire season and hasn't started more than 30 games at first since 1999 (when he started 50 games). He hasn't been a full time first baseman since 1996 when he started 136 games. That was 9 years ago. That being said, the White Sox would love to unload him I'm sure.
  20. http://kmbumb.people.wm.edu/roster/06agency.html Zenny gave us this link in a different thread. It needs some updating (for example Wakefield is no longer a FA to be), but it's the best one I've seen yet.
  21. And will be much more expensive than someone like Youkilis who is basically good for the same or better numbers.
  22. It's not JUST you Zenny, I'd much rather see Youk starting at the cheaper price. Like I've always said, Hanley MAY be a big league player someday, hell even a star, but that someday isn't 2006 in my opinion. IF he busts onto the scene late 2006 or 2007 (more likely), then you've got a problem of where to play him. He's athletic enough where it might be a waste to play him at third, and if the team's commited to Renteria at short (and Pedroia at second), center field wouldn't be a bad idea. Theo is always talking about how he's planning not only for 2005, but the future as well. Youkilis has GOT to be in his plans for 2006, because he really has no other alternative unless he signs a free agent, and why do that when he's got a perfectly good alternative already here.
  23. Actually, Bellhorn has 72 Ks to Dunn's 68. For the record.
  24. I don't agree. I think the organization sees Youkilis as a replacement at third long term for Bill Mueller, who's a free agent after 05 I believe. I think they're just struggling to find him a place to play right now and trying to get him into as many games as possible. I've been wrong before, but I hope I'm not wrong about this. I'd love to see Youk as an everyday player in Boston.
  25. No, unfortunately management is way too attached to the big lug.
