  1. Zenny put it best...I hope they don't actually put him in an actual ball game. Mendoza makes me sick. I mean think about it...do you really think the Yankees would've let Mendoza go if they knew he could continue producing for them? I tend to believe that they let him go knowing he had serious health issues, and the Sox have experienced the brunt of those issues.
  2. Sounds good, as I think this is an interesting development. We'll know if he's on the team if he's in uniform tonight. I like Youkilis down in Pawtucket at least for a little while, and I'd also like to see Mendoza shipped elsewhere, though I'm sure we'd have to eat a bit of his contract.
  3. NO! And until it does, it is a flawed theory, IMHO.
  4. Bostondirtdogs.com is reporting that Mendoza has been activated and Youkilis is being sent down to Pawtucket... Why on Earth would the Sox pull something like this? Last I heard, Mendoza was hurt again after letting up 5 hits in 1 2/3 innings in AAA...did a miracle happen sometime in the last 2 weeks? Anyone with any updates??
  5. Remember my posting about Mendoza/Youk and RJ/Boston? Everyone was questioning the source, but Boston Dirt Dogs is now reporting that Mendoza has taken Youk's spot on the roster in Anaheim...the source is 1/2 right so far.... http://www.bostondirtdogs.com
  6. Exactly...my perception is that this guy just wants to win, and he is fully aware that he greatly enhances any team he joins, to the point where he can push them into the playoffs and beyond. Boston, NY, Anaheim, Chicago...I'm not sure it matters to him. It really comes down to what AZ can get for him.
  7. I believe what the players actually say, and Schill has said all along that him and RJ are buddies. Anything else I read about "sources close to RJ" or "people familiar with RJ's thinking" is absolute rubbish, and RJ proved them all wrong the other day at the All Star press conference when he said he WAS interested in being traded and WOULD go to any team that would properly compensate the DBacks, contrary to what these "close sources" had previously been reporting.
  8. Here is most of what I've been posting in a nutshell. I'd say the Sox would be interested in Delgado, as well, IF they were looking for a short term solution. However, perhaps the Sox are interested in a long term solution? In that case, Helton fits the mold perfectly with his awesome bat and great defense. Suppose NMO's figure is correct for Helton: $16.6M/year until 2011. Essentially, Sox would owe him somewhere around $116M over the next 7 seasons. If the Rockies kicked in, say, $40M in any deal, it'd knock the overall price down to ~$76.4M. Spread that over 7 years and we'd have Todd Helton at ~$11M/year, much less than Manny, Petey, Schill, etc. Again, this is all speculation, as there aren't even any concrete rumors yet. From Colorado's standpoint, I don't see why they'd be interested in making a deal, much less fielding a team in the Mile High City. And if you've actually read this far...I'll stop rambling now.
  9. Again, the Helton rumor is so weak right now that it is almost not worth mentioning. Many will agree that the Sox will not take him on without Colorado taking on $20-$40M of his contract. The only reason I could think for it being important is that they are possibly trying to showcase Mendoza as part of the RJ trade...? SoSH posters indicated that he is a source close to PawSox mgmt, who may be involved if the Sox are considering trading players out of Pawtucket...? Lastly, I forget where I read it, but Randy Johnson's agent was in Pawtucket last night and was on the phone with Theo...
  10. Not to be pessimistic, but the Sox don't have a chance of winning that series if Pedro and/or Schilling do not pitch. What's up with Pedro getting extra days off? I wonder why the media isn't making a hailstorm over that? Perhaps because Petey is in his walk year and they don't want to piss him off again...?
  11. If this is true, then it confirms my belief that Terry Francona is the worst manager in baseball.
  12. Here it is folks...this one seems a bit more credible than rumors of the past. I picked this one up off of SoSH, which found it off the Royal Rooters site... Also, there are rumblings that Todd Helton may come to Boston...no concrete rumors yet, but Helton did mention on ESPN Radio that he'd accept a trade to Boston or Atlanta...if this rumor gains any steam, we should be hearing more details in the next couple days. Personally, I don't think it's happening. I see the Rockies moving Preston Wilson and Larry Walker before Helton, but that's just me.
  13. Absolutely...if we can keep our offense intact and open up a spot in our rotation, I'd be all for it. On another note, how stupid must Derek Lowe be feeling right now? The man was offered a 3-year contract valued at about $27M (i.e. ~$9M/year) and he turned it down thinking he could increase his value! Even the most casual Sox fan knows that the better part of DLowe's success can be attributed to his exorbitantly high run support. I genuinely feel bad for this guy (wait, no I don't).
  14. I'm not as concerned about DLowe as I am about Vlad the Impaler...lets hope he doesn't pull another 2 HR, 9 RBI night on us.
  15. Francona didn't seem to upset about letting his ace skip town a few days before the break, and Petey isn't even a Cy Young candidate this season. As far as I'm concerned, it's water under the bridge now. They need to take care of business tonight.
  16. Won't happen this summer, mark my words.
  17. Nomar to Pittsburgh for Wilson and Benson WILL NOT happen. In fact, Nomar could not be traded for either player straight up. Wilson is one of the hottest hitters in the National League and Benson could fetch much better from other teams. What interest would the Pirates have in bringing Nomar to Pittsburgh? One of the Wilsons (I think Jack?) is already a mainstay at SS, and they have absolutely no reason for a 3 month rental. That is the most ludicrous rumor I've heard yet.
  18. It would be huge to have the Millwood of the mid - late 90's, but I don't see it happening. Millwood makes approximately $7M more than DLowe, and I just don't see him as an upgrade. I'd rather see DLowe sent packing in a Randy Johnson trade or relegated to the bullpen upon his arrival.
  19. Absolutely...trading Nomar would inevitably force us to bring up someone like Crespo (it makes me sick just to type his name) as a backup unless we were able to swing someone else in on a deal. The middle infielder market is looking awfully thin right now! Wouldn't it be great to add Alfonso Soriano to this team? Despite the fact that he is a former Yankee, this guy is down right nasty ... I remember there being a rumor on this board a few weeks ago that the Sox were considering making a move for him ... I'd take Soriano over ARod any day.
  20. The ARod fiasco has shown that players cannot defer or give away parts of their contracts like that. It was more of a kind gesture on Manny's part...proof that he doesn't want Petey to go.
  21. The only person I'd be remotely interested in would be Cabrera because he's slightly younger than the rest of the guys on the list besides Hairston/Roberts. I couldn't see Baltimore trading competent major leaguers within their division, be it the yanks or the sox. As for the rest of the guys on the list, I don't want their aging bodies and heavy contracts....talk about slim pickings for middle infielders! I'm much more satisfied with Bellhorn and Reese.
  22. I think we did alright without Nomar in the lineup for the better part of the first half, and I honestly don't think this team would be worse off without him. Texas will not win the AL West this season...their lack of pitching depth is alarming. Soriano is arbitration-eligible next season and I see absolutely no reason why they wouldn't resign him. Who else is available? Orlando Cabrera, Edgar Renteria....my mind is drawing a blank...anyone else care to add to this brief list?
  23. Good points, but I can't agree that the Cubs would turn down a rotation of Wood, Prior, Johnson, Clement, and Zambrano for a rotation with Glendon Rusch in Johnson's place. They definitely need a bat, and they definitely have the prospects to attain one, but there's not a lot out there. SS is definitely their weak point, but the Sox WILL NOT trade Nomar for prospects, IMO. I heard they'd be more likely to go after Cabrera, which I don't think would be a bad pick up for them...could use a change of scenery. 17 days until the deadline....
  24. Agreed...I'm sick of the Boston media over-analyzing every intricacy of the team...I really give the team credit for dealing with all of their BS. I never thought there'd be such an uproar over a day off. Who cares what the excuse is? You don't treat a Triple Crown contender like this.
  25. Why the hell WOULDN'T the Sox offer him a contract??? He's a proven winner and still has the stuff to win 15-20 games per year. He is a clubhouse leader (who else would've had a gigantic bobblehead doll made for them?) and is critical to the team's chances for playoff glory. I'm not saying throw him 17M/year for 4 years, but the Sox would be absolutely crazy if they don't offer him a contract. I'm not really worried about Pedro's outburst from earlier this season. Right around the time of the Giants series (I believe) he apologized for those comments and admitted he was just frustrated. The guy has been putting on a show in Boston for years, and it won't change. Besides, if the Sox don't offer, Pedro WILL be wearing pinstripes next season, no questions asked.
