  1. We need Lowe now more than ever, whether he tanks his next one or not. At least he's shown us that the good stuff is still there somewhere.
  2. The games now count every bit as much as the games later in the season. I'm in favor of whatever method has him missing the fewest games, at any point in the season. What I don't understand is why you let him pitch in Colorado (where the air messes with the movement of pitches AND the pitcher's endurance) before letting him rest. Colorado strikes me as the PERFECT time of game to let him sit out and rest. Schilling's fierce enough of a competitor to tear himself to shreds before shutting it down.
  3. Mueller hasn't earned anything yet this year, while Youkilis has at least earned the right to compete for the position. I believe this was the same argument that was occuring last season with Hillenbrand/Mueller, and now it's Mueller/Youkilis. Our "batting champ" from last year is hitting .262. I have nothing against Mueller, but giving playing time this year based on a single year of performance is a dangerous thing to do.
  4. This is what happens when you only get 2 runs off of a key rally like that. 5-2 Dodgers. Rooter, I suggest to talk to Ortiz, Manny, and Varitek about needing a hit.
  5. So, a key walk, and good defense from Bellhorn so far. Weaver past 60 pitches after 3. I can't wait for the bottom of the 5th, I predict we destroy him then.
  6. If the wind really was blowing like that, then I don't see how you can call this error on Manny as "lazy." I could tell from the MLB.TV feed that he was hauling @$$ to try to get to that ball.
  7. Was the wind really swirling as much as the Dodgers announcers were saying, yeszir?
  8. And the Bellhorn haters look stupid yet again. And Pokey even blew a DP tonight with a bad throw. FYI - Mussina reportedly left the yankees game after the 3rd with a groin injury.
  9. Naturally, tonight is the one night that we don't score ANY runs for Lowe. Oy.
  10. Slight problem - Nixon won't be there. Defensively, I think our best unit, as the roster stands right now, is C - Varitek 1B - McCarty 2B - Pokey SS - Nomar 3B - Youkilis/Bellhorn (they both seem average at 3B, not bad though) LF - Manny CF - Damon RF - Kapler (Ortiz DH against RHP, Millar or Mirabelli against LHP) Problem is, that has McCarty, Pokey, and Kapler in the same lineup. That's bad. Offensively, the best lineup would be C - Varitek 1B - Ortiz 2B - Bellhorn SS - Nomar 3B - Youkilis LF - Manny CF - Damon RF - Millar DH - Mirabelli by default Problem is, this lineup is Pokeyless, and has miserable range in RF, with limited range at 1B. The only obvious, undebatable positions on this team, in considering offense AND defense, are C, SS, LF, and CF. With 3B falling under "kinda" with Youkilis, given the small sample size.
  11. I don't know, I'd be thinking that we should try to get him back in time for Colorado, if it's at all possible. That would be a nice place to get back into the swing of things for Trot.
  12. Sounds like more hope than fact. I look forward to Nixon's return, and Millar's subsequent relegation to being a bench/platoon player.
  13. ESPN + Girlfriend Unexpectedly Free + Nomar's Return =
  14. Somehow, I think Pedro was pitching scared, and didn't want to risk hurting his arm in his past starts. He apparently wasn't throwing off of the mound between starts as he did in seasons past, and you know that his brother's injuries and decline have to be in his mind. I think that tonight's performance may have come, at least in part, from Pedro realizing that if he doesn't pitch to the best of his ability NOW, damn the shoulder, he isn't likely to see the payday he wants after this season. But I'm a cynic. Regardless, tonight was great to see, and whatever his motivation, I hope Pedro continues to perform like this from here on out.
  15. Manny and Varitek both letting us down...how often does that happen? Nice hitting by Ortiz, and I guess somebody beamed Bellhorn to 1st ahead of him (since, you know, he can't hit and only strikes out ).
  16. If this is the year, we must not suck at Interleague play. Playing .500 ball won't cut it either, the way the Yankees have been slugging lately. This time of year always seems to be when the Sox falter, if this is the year, then it must be different this time around.
  17. How anyone can picture an outfield with Millar in it as an everyday player is astonishing to me. I'm probably going to have nightmares now.
  18. I am as well. Also, regaring Mueller, he was struggling a bit before he got injured, so if he struggles when he returns, it'll be par for the season so far.
  19. I am in no way implying that we should not be excited about Nomar's return, I'm just trying to encourage everybody to temper their immediate expecations a bit with a couple of goals in mind. 1) After so long without seeing big-league pitching, if he goes 0-for-4, to limit the letdown 2) If Nomar kicks some Padre booty, it'll be that much more enjoyable if it's a welcome return AND a pleasant surprise.
  20. Let's be careful in our assumptions about Nomar's performance upon returning. He hasn't seen big-league pitching (or David Wells) in a very long time.
  21. Melvin Mora is getting screwed as well. He's been impressive, leading the AL in runs scored right now with a .370 batting average.
  22. One of the runs against Lowe was unearned, according to the ESPN.com boxscore. I also saw the same thing on MLB.com during the game. The amusing part is that the error was ON LOWE.
