Baseball isn't football. It's a team game TO EXTENT, but what it really boils down to is one on one matchups. Pitcher versus batter, and thats it. There's no 10 guys running downfield trying to get open, blocking for each other and diving for errant throws.
For me, this whole situation boils down to the fact that Manny overcomes his "attitude" with something called his "bat." Manny hasn't been running out ground balls since we got him 4 years ago. He's always stopped to watch homeruns (which, let me remind you, he hits a lot of). This is only an issue now because it's become a huge deal that he's asked to be traded, another thing that he does frequently.
Bottom line, Manny wins us many more games than he costs us with his stupidity. He is protection for other players in the lineup (Manny-Ortiz mean anything to you?), and we need him on the team. Wells may be upset at Manny not stepping up after teammates went down, I think we all are, but I can tell you that he sure is happy to have him on the team when Many hits a go-ahead 3 run shot to put the sox on top when Wells is pitching.
