They would not be sellers to any great degree because it is impractical to be at this point. The real test is whether they will be buyers and I doubt you will see much of that going into the deadline. I do expect there is a chance that the Sox will be one of the teams playing with some secondary level trades but I don't expect any big acquisitions.

I honestly think you have your head stuck in the sand here. The Boston mouthpiece over the last 30 yrs has been Gammons. When he says something, it typically is coming from the President or Owner or GM. You better believe this was floated out there to sour Lester's reputation so it would make it easier for him to be dealt. It has happened TO EVERY PLAYER EVER TRADED by the Red Sox. Every player that mattered at least. If you don't think the sox do this then you should probably be wearing a helmet on a daily basis and screaming about your baseball

I don't think they will trade either one, but if they want to move Lester vs. Beckett, it's mostly because Lester should bring more back. He has a pretty team-friendly contract and is younger than Beckett.

You don't just trade a guy like Lester. 28 years old, team friendly contract, normally pitches like a #1/#2, and absolutely most importantly he is the only guy on this staff who is consistently healthy.Unless you get three top 10 pitching prospects and more for him, it absolutely isn't worth it.

 

Trading Lester would mean they've given up with the next three years, and there is no way that's the case.

I don't think they will; the only reason I said they might is that he will bring back more than Beckett for all the reasons you cite. I think it would be a bad idea to trade core players at this point unless you're really going to tear down the team and if that's the plan then there are people who you could move ahead of Lester. Also, trading him right now would be selling low which is always a bad idea.
