...from the 2007 championship team. Yankees sign Manny Delcarmen to a MiLB deal. I remember when everyone and their mothers where spooging over this guy being the next Papelbon. Now, he and Okajima are fighting for a pen slot on a team without a pen opening

There was a lot to like about Manny Delcarmen. He was a bit of a disappointment but served well for awhile there. He wasn't a Joba or Phil Hughes level disappointment, but he was a disappointment.

I see what you did there, lol. Hughes is definitely a disappointment. Not sure you can throw Joba in that equation. The injuries are holding him back, but he's been a quality setup man since converting back at the beginning of the 2010 season. He was having an all-star level campaign last yr before injuring his arm.

Let both of those be warnings to you, though. f***ing around with a good thing is not a good idea. Yo-yo-ing players between relief and rotation can leave you with dead arms and shattered dreams

I forgot about him. He had 3 plus pitches for a reliever (FB at 95-97, curve and change). His change was filthy.

relievers are volatile like they say.

Gammons was his biggest fan boy. I think he said he was going to be the new Mo about 7 years ago. Can't complain about a minor league deal tho

Delcarmens problem is 2-fold.....

His control with his offspeed pitches is poor and his fastball is too straight.....when he gets behind in the count, he is a batting practice pitcher.

I always liked Manny Delcarmen. He grew up in Boston (Hyde Park, I believe). There was definitely hype about him. And why not? Local grown talent always gets attention because it is a good story. He was always a nice young man and very competitive. I hope he finds his way back to MLB. Even if it is with the Yankees.

obviously he's had his problems(mostly bouts of wildness)...hopefully he can put it together, still has a pretty good arm, and is still on the productive side of 30...

Somebody in Ny must think the Yankee pitching staff can work well with him...they have had some success with some younger pitchers...not so much with overpaid whatevers like Burnett
