Yeah Yankees won the first game. Yanks and Rays are tied for first place now, how will home field advantage/playoff schedule be determined if they both win or lose tomorrow? being its the last game of the season and they would have the same record.

Whoever won the head to head match ups I think is what determines it.. I'm not sure who won more games H2H though.

Tampa and NYY are both guaranteed to make the playoffs, by either the division title or wild card. Since both are getting in, they use the tie-breaker to determine the division winner, and the first tie-breaker is head to head games. Tampa won the season series 10-8 this year, so if they win today, NYY gets the wild card no matter what.

unless new york wins tonight and tampa loses, tampa wins the division because they won the tiebreaker scenario

I dont think they care who they play in round 1. I think it was much more important to have all options available for game 2 in the ALDS. If they started Hughes, he wouldnt have been available. And obviously they werent starting CC. So they had Mitre, Nova or Moseley, with probably all 3 of them off the playoff roster
