I love the Williams pick. Just speculating, but he'd probably be in the 25-40 range due to prospect depth in this system. 5 yrs ago, he would have been a top 10 ranking, but this system is stacked

Really wish we just unloaded a bit and flexed out muscles. Williams, Jordan, Heredia and DePaula. That would be sweet. All four would jump right into the top 30 and be potential top 10 next off season, IMO.

Montero is now 6 for his last 13 with a homer' date=' 2 doubles a walk and 3RBI. OPS back up to .824[/quote']

i never realized that his ops dropped. i should have known, you went more than a full day without mentioning him

Jesus Montero went 3 for 4 with a walkoff 2 run homer against the PawSox tonight. BA up to .282. OPS up to .840

BEAST mode?

He wasnt done. 3 for 4 with a homer yesterday as well.

Line up to .287/.360/.494.

Here are his OPS' by month...

April- .696

May- .635

June- .829

July- 1.072

August- 1.363

His OPS post ASB is a ridiculous 1.248 with 7 homers in 23 games. The scouting report on him early this yr was that the pitchers started throwing off the plate against him. He worked his share of walks, but got anxious and started chasing. They tried an adjustment to his swing in late April, which just didnt take. He went back to his old swing, but with a bit more experience and started holding off on those outside pitches, or driving them off the wall in right. Now, he is just unstoppable. BRING HIM UP!

A few other nice notes...

Brett Marshall threw 7 shutout innings yesterday as he continues to soldier back from TJS. He's looking as good as ever

Aceves came back for Scranton and pitched 0.2IP. Sounds like the velo was in the 88-90 range.

Gary Sanchez hit ANOTHER homer. The 17 yr old has 6 homers and an OPS of 1.045 in the GCL. He looks like Montero reincarnate

Melky Mesa is putting his name on the map. In a pitcher's league, he has 17 homers and 30SBs while playing a balls out CF.

How is his defense?

Do you know anything about baseball? You know, failing 70% of the time on average is good? Seriously, you're just looking to pick a fight arent you. Your team's going down in flames, so you'll bring everyone around you down too. Were you picked on as a child? Did mommy not love you enough?

you have no problem making fun of the sox all day long but one joke about a yankee minor leaguer and you go off the deep end. you told me this was a dysfunctional group of ball busters when i joined the site, if you can't take what you dish out then feel free to leave

maybe i should lay off jesus montero for a while. "were you picked on as a child? did mommy not love you enough?" don't sound like the thoughts of a stable adult

Just wanted to give an update on one of the best stories in the Yankee minors thus far.

Dellin Betances' numbers through 13 starts...8-1 1.61ERA 67IP 39H 12ER 18BB 82K 0.85WHIP 11.0K/9IP

His velocity is sitting around 95 with him hitting 98-99 regularly. His breaking ball has been completely lights out and his change has made a massive stride since prior to his surgery. He's becoming the pitcher we all thought he could be when he received a 7 figure bonus in the 2006 draft. Now 22yrs old, he won't move to Trenton this yr, since he's post surgery. But he'll start out in AA next yr and might be a big league option before the end of the 2011 campaign. They might not have a choice but to bring him up mid season next yr if his stuff remains this unhittable

Cito Culver and Rob Segedin were promoted to SI as well. Culver has seen his BA improve from July to August. His patience for the yr is pretty good as his average is tolerable as well. His power has been pretty late to the party, but he is just 17 and is not a "now" power kind of player. The expectation is that Culver will probably stay at SI this yr and will probably start off there next yr as well. The Yankees typically take a 30 day eval period where they dont tinker with anything, then start tinkering with swings and approaches. Seems Culver is responding to his changes, but he's got a long way to go.

Segedin was in the GCL mostly to get comfortable again after taking the summer off to recoup from a back injury. It took only two games. He went 0fer in game 1, then went 2 for 5 with a bomb in game 2, so they moved him up.

2 in a row from Piliere. He is in Tampa for a short time and got to see probably our two best pitching prospects. He likens Betances to a young Beckett. Not bad, IMO.

And btw, both Banuelos and Betances were promoted to AA Trenton today

The Yankees did send off Zach McAllister to the Guardians today to complete the Kearns deal. I liked him as a prospect, but he was going nowhere in this organization. Good luck, and he will probably start for the Guardians come next season

Lots of movement today...

Zach McAllister was formally sent to Cleveland to complete the Kearns deal. Good luck kid.

Jason Hirsch headed off to the DL and probably out of the org after this season. That created a vacuum within the system...

Hector Noesi and DJ Mitchell have moved from AA to AAA

Manny Banuelos and Dellin Betances have moved from A+ to AA

Sean Black and Josh Romanski have moved from A to A+

Mike Gipson and Shane Greene have moved from SI to A
