Hello Guys,

I'm from Austria, a country in Europe, where baseball is not very popular. But me and my parents are going to the USA on 20th July. In Late July there's a game against the Oakland Athletics we'd like to watch!

I know the rules of this interesting game, 'cause I played it before, but altough i've some questions and it would be awesome if you could give me an answer. :)

1.) I know that there's no time limit. A game ends when the 7th oder 9th inning is ended. But how long does this usually take?

2.) Are there any special songs which you sing during the game?

3.) Is there a special meal that you eat while watching the game?

Sorry for my bad english, but here in Austria are holidays and so I'm out of practice :D

Thanks for answers!

1) It really depends on the score, how quickly the pitchers are working in between pitches, etc. I would say count on at least 3 hours, but it could stretch out to 4 or 4 and a half hours. It could also be as short as two and a half hours, but normally games run longer than normal than shorter.

2) Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond in the middle of the eighth inning. Take Me Out to the Ballgame in the middle of the seventh.

3) Anything you want at Fenway. The Italian Sausages are awesome, Fenway Franks (hot dogs), cheeseburgers, lots of beer, etc etc. It is VERY expensive, so bring a lot of money.

Have fun! It will be an awesome experience. Your English is pretty good.

Welcome to the forum!

1. The games usually last about 3 hours. It may be a tad under or a tad over. If the game is tied at the end of the ninth inning than the game will go into extra innings, which is the proverbial over time. Once it goes into extra innings, if the home team takes the lead, they automatically win. If the visiting team takes the lead, the home team will get half an inning to take the lead back and possibly overcome it and win. There's no saying when the game will end when the game is in extra innings.

2. If you're going to Fenway, the Star Spangled Banner, Sweet Caroline (by Neal Diamond) and Take Me Out To The Ballgame will be sung. The lyrics are usually on the big screen in center field and participating is completely optional.

3. There is food in and around Fenway that you'll likely not find anywhere else. It will be expensive in Fenway and likely expensive outside and near Fenway, but you have a lot of choices. The Fenway Frank is a favorite.

I expected the Star Spangled Banner to be sang and i already know the lyrics. The same with Sweet Caroline. But I've to listen to Take Me Out To The Ballgame..

I feel now a lot more informed! And thank you for the info about the Money!

I'm stretched to breaking point for my first Baseball game ever! :)

So I went to the Game today and I loved it, but why did everyone scream eachtime Kevin Youkilis played? Is there a reason for this? Is he leaving the Red Sox or something like that?

(Sorry for doubleposting, put if I would just edit, nobody would read..)
