The presumption is a 2 yr 30 mil deal. I'd take that to be honest with you. I didnt want the yankees to go postal and offer 5,6, or god no 7 yrs for this guy. But a 2 yr deal is a good idea. Hell, I'd add a vesting option at bigger money for yr 3. Over the last 4 yrs, Sheets has averaged 24 starts a yr and 150IP. If we are more cafeful with him than the brewers were (on pace for 35 starts and 223IP when he went down) we might be able to keep him healthy. That being said, he cannot be the biggest pitching addition of this offseason.

I would love to add Sheets. He can give us what Burnett could give us for a fraction of the cost and nowhere near the length of commitment. Sign him up.

Good pitcher, but he gets hurt all the time. If he gives you anywhere close to 200 innings, thank your lucky stars.

Have fun spending 15 per on a guy who if handled right, you "might keep healthy."

We have one of those. They are maddening.

Mark Feinsand is now saying the offer is 2 years, $26 Mil.

As for him being oft-injured, there's no debating that. The same is true with Burnett. If we're gonna have a pitcher go down, I'd rather it be a guy making $26 Mil over 2 years than a guy making $64 Mil over 4 years.

IF they make that kind of offer, I suppose someone else will come along and offer a little less annually but for an extra year (or two).

If Sheets can grab $30m for 2 yrs, and stays healthy and performs well, he's looking at another nice contract.

If he gets injured again and falters, he's just had his big pay day, the future won't bode as well.

He's got to at least consider a longer term, lower annual salary if he can get such an offer...let's just say he scores $48m for 4 yrs ($3m per yr less than the potential Yankee offer)...$18m more gauranteed is hard to ignore.

Burnett is a lot more stable than Sheets.

Sheets starts over the last 4 yrs

22, 17, 24, 31- 23.5 starts per season

Burnett over the last 4 yrs

32, 21, 25, 35- 28.3 starts per season

3 of the top 4 start totals are Burnett's above. AND Sheets is currently injured, while Burnett was not. Listen, I happen to think that Sheets will be healthy for the next few seasons, but I have nothing but my gut to back that up, and we know how reliable that has been.

CC to LA

Burnett and Sheets to Yanks.... That's a fairly risky move to be honest. To sign both of those health risks. The Yanks would be better off signing one of the 2 and trying to bring in a proven innings guy like Lowe or making a trade for Peavy.

frankly I dont trust either of them, but if I had my choice it would be sheets, just because he won't cost as much, both in terms of money and years. We just got out from under the carl Pavano contract, and that alone is enough to warrant any Yankee fan's feeling of caution when it comes to pitchers like this.

I have a feeling CC ends up in NY regardless. He's really trying to get LA or LAA to get close to NY's offer. Unfortunate for them' date=' the yankees will just up the offer.[/quote']

The Brewers have been said to have added a 6th year to there deal. Plus I read there might be an opt out after the 3rd season. If that's true, that deal might look very good to him, especially if he doesn't want to pitch in NY.

Being able to test the market again at 31, could have serious value. Especially if the economy is better. And if he pitches like he did this season in the NL, he could be looking at 100M+ deal again after making 20M a season for the previous 3. So he could conceivably make 160M if he went that route.
