I feel like I have a damn good team' date=' but they underachieve. What the hell is wrong with my team? I look at it and wonder why the hell I'm in 9th place. It's annoying as f***. Granted, my pitching is weak in areas, but my offense should be mashing.[/quote']

As you know Zach, this is my second year of playing fantasy. So for what it's worth, here are some observations. It seems the majority of players put too much emphasis on offensive players, both on drafting and trading. But it seems to me that premise is wrong.

My rationale is that the numbers work against the elite offensive player's impact. Let's say you have a player like T. Hunter ( which I do ) he's having a great year. However, think of his impact. He is one of nine players I will field on any given day, he will play against nine players, and he will play only 5 to 6 times per week. So his positve performance is diluted based on his team and the opposition numbers. Also remember, this is an elite player, in most cases, a power hitter doesn't steal bases and vice versa. So in most cases, the positive impact will only be to 5 categories ( in our league ). His negative performance will impact only two categories ; BA and OBP.

Pitchers will also affect 5 categories. But remember, there is a major drop-off between the quality ( elite ) pitchers and the rest. Far more so than hitters. Since they have fewer starts per week ( 1 to 2 ) than hitters ( 5-6 ) their impact is magnified. Their positive performance affects 5 categories. However, a negative performance will will impact three categories ; ERA, WHIP, and K's/9. Compound this with the limited starts per week and the effect of poor pitching becomes more significant than a poor hitting performance.

As far as your team goes, there's a number of things. Why do yo carry 3 first basemen ? Also, the number of OF'ers that you carry ? You have 3-4 stud's on offensive, this isn't going to dominate anyone. Your speed ( steals and runs ) is low/ average. Your pitching is definately weak. Your best 3 starters are : 10-1--3.50--1.17, 11--3.83 --1.24, 11-4--3.77--1.35. Good records, fair ERA, and fair WHIP. The rest are your starters ( 3 ) are run of the mill / waiver pick-ups : all with .500 records, 4.18-4.53 ERA, 1.31-1.56 WHIP. Your relievers are worse. Saito is the only one you have that's decent : 24 saves, 1.63 ERA, and .72 WHIP. The rest ( 3 more ) : 11-16 saves, 4.5--5.44 ERA, 1.21--1.53 WHIP.

I guess from what I've observed, you have to look at new talent coming up, who's hot, who's not, matchups each day, and trades. I think one problem people have is when propsng a trade is what the effect +/- for the other team. I'd be willing to talk trades.

I beat you for real?

I guess Halladay throwing a CG SO and Shields getting rocked didn't help your cause today, lol.

Your team was way too talented to play this far back.

That's what I mean. My team is so good and I can't believe I'm stuck back in 9th place. That'll probably change and I'll probably make the playoffs, but I have to figure out a way to get back into this thing and make more of a presence.

I yield first place to ORS.

Probably not for long. We still have to go head-to-head before the season ends.

EDIT: And I know the Gallardo move is going to end hurting me in the end. He was toiling in middle-relief, and then Sheets goes down like 30 mins after I dropped him for Loney. Typical.

Let me get this straight, Brandon Phillips and Ted Lilly for Polanco and Lester?

Did SFoC at least kiss you first or give you a reach around Riverside? Holy crap is that a bad trade. Lester might not even finish the year up with the big club, and you are giving up a 20 HR/18 SB 2B for a batting average. I won't veto it because I don't like doing that, but this is beyond insane.

Sigh. Bad trade. Part of me is suddenly just starting to say "Hey, if SFOC can pull it off, then more power to him." However, this is kind of crazy.

On another note...I hope my pick up of Tejada at SS works out for me. O-Cab's been cooling off as of late and it's nice to be able to replace him with Tejada.

Christ. This has happened to me 9823459823453 times. I take a big lead that could lift me into a playoff spot into the final day of the week, and the opposing team makes up enough ground to screw me out of climbing the ranks. I was winning 10-2 this week and I wound up winning 6-4 instead. Big difference. Bonderman absolutely killed me this week. Thanks, asshat. Thankfully you'll be off my team tomorrow.

What a nice addition I got. <_>

Haha. He'll be a good addition for you with Holliday. He gets K's and plays on a good team so he'll get you the W's also. He's also just a good pitcher, lol. I wouldn't look at it as anymore than one of those rare abysmal starts that every pitcher has. Luckily for you though, the implosion didn't happen on your team.

See Red...

Congratulations on the most gargantuan offensive fantasy week I have ever seen. There was no way I could contend with that.

I'd say so.

Burninators ( See Red ) for the week 7/30-8/5 :

Ave .359

OBP .419

Runs 49

HR 18

RBI 55

SB 4

Some times my team can pump out some pretty impressive numbers... and sometimes... they really don't.

Hell of a race for this number #6 spot, though... I hold the final spot by .5 games and my final two games are against basement teams! So far sticking with my team, even through their struggles, has paid off!

My team has decided just to fall off the face of the earth. I was in the top 3 or so all year and then all of a sudden, they plummet and now I'm out of playoffs.

That's how my teams usually are. It's refreshing to have a team that's competing down the stretch.

Although I do have to admit, if a few other teams had taken care of their business, I'd have been buried a while ago.

*cough* me *cough*

I have a dominant team and I usually always carry a comfortable lead into the final two days. But then I either 1) choke the lead away or 2) win by a very small margin. My team is very frustrating. I can still reach the 6th spot, but I'm going to need a lot of help from the basement teams. Hopefully I really kick the s*** out of the last place team this week and get right back in there.

I would like to share my desire to put a small rodent in a bag and tie it about the head of Tony LaRussa.

His OF roster usage makes no sense. He's been a strict platoon guy pretty much all year, so I sit Ankiel and Duncan against LHP. Of course, he's played them a few times as well and then sat them against RHP, which is when I start them. I've lost a number of good games from them or people who sat when I thought they were playing. LaRussa blows.

Nice start for ARod2212 this week. He's got 10 bombs in 2 days.

A first this year. Pubes ( Crespo Blows ) lost the entire pitching category due to not reaching the 25 inning minimum ( 24 ). But left two starters on the bench Sunday.

Thanks Crespo for keeping it close.

Zach' date=' I need your team to come through this week and win.[/quote']

If I beat him by 4 or more, and you just have a close game with your opponent ( +/- 2 points), I have a legitimate shot at making the playoffs. I love to hate my team. It's so talented, but they always find a way to f*** it up.

It was almost all for not since my team just about s*** the bed this week. My team looked dead in the water for a stretch of the season but were able to scratch their way in.

Trust me, my team's not winning it all.
