Wow. That extension is at $13 million per year. That's a bargain for someone like him. Barry Zito will probably get somewhere around $17 million per year and he, quite frankly, can't hold Carpenter's jock strap.

They had him either way in '07 and '08 at $7M and $9M. So they extended him for 3 more years at $49M ($16.33M per year). Sounds about right to me for a guy who will be 36 at the end of the contract and going into his age 37 year for the option. Expect Zambrano to get extended next.

barry zito cant hold chris carpenters jockstrap?

did i read that right??

put ole barry in the nl central and lets see what happens

chris carpenter is a good nl pitcher who couldnt make it in the american league

lets not revise history because the guy had a couple good years

his #s in st louis are

2006-STL 15 8 3.09 32 32 5 0 3 0 221.2 194 81 76 21 43 184 3

zito's

YTD 16 10 3.83 34 34 0 0 0 0 221.0 211 99 94 27 99 151 4

of course zito sees the american league with a dh and much more offense

carpenter sees the stro's and the cubs and the padres

im not a zito guy because he cant beat ny

but i'd take him all day long over

karen""rainy days and mondays get me down"" carpenter

comparison stats

Chris Carpenter

avg of 50 Walks a season

17-24 HRs a season (quite impressive that he allowed 7 last season in the new hitters park that is busch stadium

Barry Zito

avg of 80-100 Walks a season

25-30 HRs a season (and his home park has been what? The spacious stadium in Oakland)

It'll be best for Zito to land himself in the NL and as big as a ballpark he can find

Carpenter in the AL would not be the same pitcher. Zito in the NL will be a better pitcher.

ive seen chris carpenter try to pitch in the american league

it wasnt pretty

in fact he was given his outright release

he was a member of what i used to refer to as the 4 horseman of the apocolypse

joey hamilton

dave burba

rick helling

karen""we've only just begun"" carpenter

any time you'd see the above names as starters we'd bet the over line

made a fortune betting on these guys and their abilities to lite up a scoreboard..

of course carpenter has bounced back and made a good career for himself over in st louis

i do believe he was hurt for a spell maybe in 03??

anyways i wouldnt want him in fenway

if suppan couldnt make our rotation im not convinced this guy could either.
