WTVD, citing a police report, said that Redick was arrested at 1:03 a.m. in Durham, N.C., after the former Duke star made an illegal U-turn to avoid a police checkpoint.

Well, that wouldn't be a complete tip off to the cops that something's wrong...

The "holier than thou" s*** with DUI's is so vacuous.

Who can't recall a time when they had too many drinks & got behind the wheel anyway.

Everyone in their Teens and 20's has.

The only difference between JJ & the rest of us is we haven't gotten caught and we aren't as retared as him and turn around at a freakin road block.

You'd have a better chance of not getting caught by going through it than turning around. Like the cops wouldnt notice headlights turning around. What a complete jackass.

He's just stupid. He can afford a cab. With four boys, I've held many parties (get to gethers ). In all cases from HS to College, the rules were simple : You drink ( no keys and you stay over), no fights, and clean up your mess the next mourning. A large majority were from MMA ( Mass. Maritime Academy ) and other law related fields. In the Merchant Marine occupational career path one DUI elimanates any chance of a license for life. That means $ 80 K yo $ 300 K per year would be gone. Anyone trying to work in a field requiring security clearance is screwed. The list goes on and on. Get a designated driver, stay over, or call a cab.

What an idiot. I agree with SoxFanOnCape... If you make the choice to drink, either stay over somewhere or get a cab home or a friend who hasn't been drinking to drive you home. There is no excuse for driving drunk and it is so sad when you hear of accidents involving a drunk driver hitting innocent people.

i am kind of shocked by this. which i am sure alot of people are. Even being a UNC fan, he always seemed like a good person to be around. Which I am not saying just because he drinked and drived doesn't mean he is a bad guy. But it sure doesn't help. yet another example of an athlete who is not what they are protrayed as.

Absolutety false, and stupid to say. Man, I hope they throw your ass in the slammer for a DUI. I can't believe people are this stupid.

You need to look around and see how many people's lives are ruined due to drunk driving. You say you're lucky because you haven't been caught? You're lucky you haven't killed anyone. Just yesterday morning, my friend's sister was killed in a car accident by a drunk driver. She was only 20 years old, had a full ride to UF, and was probably the brightest person to come out of RHS in awhile. Just like that, she's gone, and it's because of dumbasses like you.

In my opinion, (and I'm sure everyone else's) you're more of an idiot, then Reddick could even come close to matching.

Me, not everyone drinks bro.

I think drunk driving is one of the more serious crimes you can commit and infractions should face harsher penalties. One offense = jail time up the ass two offenses = loooooooong license suspension and even longer jailtime.

40% of all traffic fatalities are because of drunk driving and people like you.

If only drunk driving killed the people doing it. Then the problem would be solved. But you aren't just responsible for yourself. You're responsible for the safety of OTHERS when you get behind the wheel. Think about that. You want to drive drunk? Can your conscience handle the fact that you killed innocent people with your stupid decision?

Wow, another stupid thing to say. You know we're right, and you're off base with this. Pathetic. Too much of a peer-pressured chicken s*** loser that you have to drive drunk in order to look cool? Yeah, that's probably it. When you're sitting in court staring at the family who's realtive just died, maybe you'll have a realization. Or maybe you should visit a family who's realtive died due to a drunk driver? I saw it. I saw the mother need to be sedated because she couldn't breath. I saw the 6'4 father known as a tough guy break down sobbing hopelessly because he'd never see his daughter again. I saw all 75 people looking desolate and just absolutety hopeless. All because of some jackass who didn't want to call a cab.

I really don't care if you care what I think, but just think what people have to go through. It's quite the paradigm shift.

Now that im in a better mood ill go into my post a little more in depth

OK, drama queen...

Occassionally people make the mistake of having a few too many beers when they get behind the wheel.

You're obviously taking this the wrong way. It's not like I condone drunk driving. I'm just saying that most people, especially young people, have gotten behind the wheel when they shouldn't have at some point. Including myself.

Is it stupid? Yes.

But does it happen way too much? Yes.

Am I saying that's OK? No.

I think you're taking the entirely wrong message from my post.

What message was your post giving then?

You'd have a better chance of not getting caught by going through it than turning around. Like the cops wouldnt notice headlights turning around. What a complete jackass.

What I got from it was the following:

-Everyone in their teens and 20s has gotten behind the wheel of a car while intoxicated

-We're not as retarded as JJ because we wouldn't turn around at a police checkpoint

-The only thing that seperates us from JJ is that we've never gotten caught

-The "holier than thou" sentiment with DUI's is stupid because everyone's done it before

-You seem like you're attacking the authorities for slamming him with a DUI because I guess "everyone's done it before"

There was no positive message coming from your post. You seemed totally ignorant to the facts that driving while intoxicated is illegal, and that many people die every night because people are stupid and get behind the wheel drunk. It's a stupid thing to do, and it's a careless thing to do. I've never done it because I don't want to be responsible for killing or hurting someone, it goes through my head. You say it's just a "mistake," but it's an easily avoidable mistake that will get you into deep s***, hopefully not including killing someone. I don't even drink because it adds nothing to my life. What happens to me if I drink? I slowly become impaired...real beneficial. What benefit comes out of drinking? Especially when underage...you look cool?

I'm taking it the wrong way? Re-read your orginal post.

I'm sorry, there is no other ways to this story. Drunk Driving is wrong. Period. You're trying to defend the something that can't be defended. Sorry for calling you out when you say something stupid.

As for being in a "better" mood, you should be totally f***ing embarrassed for saying something like that.

Katelyn Joy Derstine, 20, Sarasota, died June 15, 2006.

She was born April 5, 1986, in Sellersville, Pa., and came to Sarasota 11 years ago from Hatfield, Pa. She was a student at the University of Florida and a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and Gator Pals-Circle K.

Survivors include her parents, Bambi F. Kaine and Rodney L., both of Sarasota; a stepsister, Judith Kaine of Atlanta; a brother, M. Dane of Sarasota; a stepbrother, Daniel Kaine of Orlando; her maternal grandmother, Joyce Becker of Schwenksville, Pa.; and her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James L. Derstine of Hatfield.

A celebration of life will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Church of the Palms-Presbyterian. Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, is in charge.

Next time you're on the road. Think of people like this, then think of why you're getting such a negative reaction of this board.

I just noticed this shot. I guess you'd react negatively if you'd known a victim of the thing you say "everyone" does.

I'm sorry I'm such a drama queen.

Yankeessuck013 just got absolutely s*** on. You are completely wrong and a f***ing tool. You said everone has driven drunk. I havent, my friends havent, I dont know many people that have. So to say something like that and be completely off base AND THEN try to defend it is just f***ing stupid. I think you should get hit by a drunk driver and see how you feel about it. I've got a soft spot for stupid s*** like drinking and driving, because, even though I havent driven drunk, I have made a mistake dealing with this stupid s*** in the past, and I cant believe you would do something as to make an excuse for it.
