BOSTON (Ticker) - The Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers managed just 5 1/2 soggy innings of a scheduled three-game weekend series the last time they faced each other at Fenway Park. Rain again is in the forecast Friday, when the Red Sox are slated to host the opener of a four-game set.

Gary Matthews Jr. and Hank Blalock combined to drive in five runs in the Rangers' 6-0 victory here May 12. Kameron Loe was credited with a five-hit shutout in a came called in the sixth inning due to rain.

The next two games were postponed due to poor weather conditions, resulting in a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday here. More doubleheaders could follow as rain is predicted through Sunday morning in Boston.

Matthews had three of Texas' 17 hits in Thursday's 16-12 loss to Kansas City and has batted .471 (16-for-34) during a seven-game hitting streak. Loe started that game and allowed eight runs and eight hits in 2 1/3 innings but was not involved in the decision.

Texas will look to bounce back from just its 11th loss in 28 road games this season behind Vicente Padilla (5-4, 5.29 ERA), who allowed one run and four hits in six innings of a 10-4 win vs. Boston in his first start as a Ranger on April 4. In his only previous start against the Red Sox, Padilla surrendered five runs and eight hits in 2 2/3 innings of a 7-1 loss last June as a member of Philadelphia.

Padilla is coming off his worst outing since being traded to Texas over the winter. In Saturday's 8-6 loss to the Chicago White Sox, he gave up seven runs, seven hits and three walks in 3 1/3 innings.

Tim Wakefield (4-7, 4.05) endured a similar performance when starting opposite Padilla on April 4. The 39-year-old Wakefield surrendered seven runs and seven hits in 3 2/3 innings of that game, falling to 7-13 with a 6.27 ERA in 27 lifetime appearances - 20 starts - against the Rangers.

Fellow 39-year-old Curt Schilling allowed three runs and four hits in eight innings and Jason Varitek drove in four runs as the Red Sox posted a 9-3 triumph in Thursday's finale of a three-game series against the New York Yankees. The victory concluded a nine-game road trip in which Boston went 4-5.

Rangers first baseman Mark Teixeira has connected for only three home runs in his last 40 games, giving him six in 59 games this season. Teixeira had 16 homers through 59 games last year en route to a career-high 43.

The game is on for now, but there’s more rain in the forecast as the National Weather Service is calling for periods of showers in Boston, mainly before midnight. The rain could be heavy at times and the chance of precipitation is 100 percent.

That was the worst call i have seen in a long time. Loretta's glove was there and he had to go through the glove to the bag---and the ump was right on top of it. However as Johnny Most used to say----Justice Prevails!
