One thing I noticed the last few games regarding Lowell....he makes a diving stop and the announcers ho-hum it...his D is so stellar its almost a give that he'll make a dynamite play and the annoucners are like "hard hit ground ball to Lowell's left...he dives....and makes the throw." That's it.

 

At least with ARod this year there is some level of suspense...like will he make the routine play or not?

Lowell is amazing - I picked him up on waivers in fantasy and that was one of the best pickups I've ever made. (thanks to reading this board)

If he doesn't make it, something is very wrong. Right now, he deserves to be the starter (no Yanks, I'm not arguing he's better then A-Rod, I'm just saying he's had a better season thus far).

lowell has the golden glove and i'll assume he has a higher batting avg as well as more xtra base hits while hitting in front of the likes of willie harris and agon

meanwhile arod is surrounded with 1st ballot hall of famers in front of him and behind him

 

arod will get it,every 10 year old boy will vote arod over lowell

and we as redsox fans understand that how this s*** works

as these 10 year olds turn into adults they'll figure it out as will some members on this board who continually ballwash the guy who ended last season for them with a double play ball and will always fail when the games on the line.

Why? He hits homers, but he has like a .260 average... he either hits a homerun, or gets out. He has the power, but he never hits for average.

Its kind of ridiculous when someone deserving of the feat can't make it because he's a little less unknown to the public. I kind of wish they didn't let us vote and just picked for themselves. Though Lowell isn't the mostt popular, he has been the better player. I mean when you take into account coming into another league, seeing new pitchers, and allthe variables that comes with that, Lowell has gone far and beyond what ARod has done.

One other point is that he's having a great year, a better year than a-rod--and he's doing it in boston. It's not like he's having a great year for the royals!

Looking at it objectively Lowell is in the top 3 in 3B this year but its hard to tell whos the "best" so far. Glaus and AROD are both there with him if you consider just offense. Here is how Lowell ranks by AL 3B this year (Rank is Lowell's Rank respective to other AL 3rd basemen) :

SLG - 2nd - Glaus

OBP - 3rd - AROD, Blalock

AVG - 1st

Total Bases - 2nd - Glaus

The only categories that Lowell leads among AL 3B is batting average and doubles. While good he still is still behind Glaus in OPS, SLG, Total Bases, HR, RBI, R and behind AROD in OBP, HR, RBI, and R. Obviously defense is important but thats not how All-Star teams are usually constructed. Like I said before Lowell is top 3 but I wouldn't say he's number 1.

Lowell - 16.6

AROD - 16.4

Blalock - 14.6

I think he deserves it more... unfortuately the fans will vote GayRod in as the starter but Lowell definitly deserves to be a reserve.

Jetes is having a nice year...but Tejada is still better.

 

Ortiz at 1B? IF a Sox player is going to represent the AL at 1B it should be Youk...after him I'd say Konerko or Overbay.

 

As for catcher...Joe Mauer is only hitting .362 to lead the AL in hitting...Pierzynski and IRod also are both having very good years.

 

Probably beating a dead horse here, but this is exactly why I couldn't give a sh*t about the All-Star game...its as big a joke as the World Baseball Classic

I've voted for Lowell a couple of times, but I don't think he makes the team this season, unfortunately. Guys like A-Rod, Troy Glaus, and Eric Chavez will all get votes based on the fact that they are more well known. If Lowell does rightfully get his position on the All-Star team, it will be because RSN flooded the ballot box with votes. I encourage it.
