Occasionally, a pitcher comes into the game as a pinch runner (particularly in the NL). So does that count as "Games Played" in their stats? I looked at Jeff Weaver's stats last season and according to them, he played in 34 games (started). But I'd seen him appear as a pinch runner in some games. So I guess the pinch-running appearances don't count for pitchers.

I remember in Game 1 of the '04 World Series at Fenway, Marquis was used as a pinch runner for the Cardinals.

 

I wonder why they do that. I've always been confused by this, especially the risks of hurting their arms when sliding or something weird happening on the basepaths.

i remember a couple years ago, the sox used Arroyo as a pinchrunner in an interleague game.
