Back to the point of the thread. Jim not only managed to alienate himself with the Boston media, but a significant portion or the national media. You can either salute him as a proud athlete that held to his beliefs, or a stupid son of a bitch. It really depends on a point of view. If his stats were over whelming, he's in. Obviously, his stats are not, they're marginal. He must therefor relie on his popularity with the voting members of the media ( the very people he pissed off ). If you want a raise, you don't piss off your boss. I'd like to see him get in, but I don't think he'll get in until he qualifies as an "old timer".

Rice denied again, I think he doesnt have that much time left to be considered into the hall of the fame. he ranked at second in voting.

The sole pick was closer Bruce Sutter

Thats right, one pick. Last year there was 2 nominees selected, in Ryne Sandberg and Wade Boggs. im perplexed to say the least.

i dont think the fact that he was a ******* which may or may not be debatle is what's hurting him, it's his numbers just arent enough in the eyes of the voting world and many non redsox fans. There are a lot of creeps in there..steve carlton, etc..

jim rice just didnt play enough to amss the necessary numbers.

eddie murray is another guy who probably thought of himself as a proud guy, but he came across as a douche bag...but he had the magic stats..so it wasnt a question. I think I am guilty and the press is guilty of overstating the prick card..It's in the numbers.

Even if Rice does not get voted in by the writers he will be voted in by the Veterans Committee who voted very similar players in Tony Perez and Orlando Cepeda. If those 2 players are in the hall of fame there is no reason Rice should not be along side of them.
