"Alex Rodriguez - 3B - Yankees

Although they're powerless to stop him, the Yankees have warned Alex Rodriguez about the dangers of frequenting illegal city poker clubs, the New York Daily News reports.

It was reported a month ago that Rodriguez had frequented a Chelsea club with professional poker player Phil Hellmuth. Sources told the paper that commissioner Bud Selig was "keeping an eye" on A-Rod and would step in "if necessary." If Rodriguez wants to associate with gamblers on a regular basis, he'll have to do better than 2-for-17 in his next postseason series. Can't afford to make anyone suspicious

To quote a popular website, "Apparently, throwing out millions overnight just to lose is frowned upon in the Yankees organization."

I read about this when it was first out in the papers, my thoughts then abotu this and my thoughts now are simply this; It doesnt matter to me, because he sure as hell has the money to do it, but if it effects him on the field or he misses time because he's locked up for illegal gambling or he gets shot due to the fact that he owed someone money, then that is when I get mad.

There's nothing wrong with it IMO, any poker game you play at home is considered "illegal" in which you wager money. So A-Rod likes to play poker? Whoop-dee-doo...I like to play poker too, you don't see me on the front of the newspaper. Must have been a slow news day...

Yeah who really cares about this. Me and my buddies play every weekend "illegally". It's just playing cards ... it's not like he's killing people.

granted, I agree with you guys that its not a big deal, but illegal poker clubs in New York are a lot different than 4 or 5 buddies gathering around in a basement playing poker.

But like I said, as long as he doesnt miss any time and as long as this doesnt have an effect on his play, I dont mind.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but his act is not illegal, the actual clubs are. So what's the big deal if A-Rod is there? Sounds like your everyday, lets start some gossip about nothing headline.

He is correct. If the Police decided to bust the game Arod would not be going to jail. Only the owner of the place running the game would be, so there is nothing to worry about.

Something like this doesn't concern baseball and A-Rod should just be left alone. If the guy wants to go out and gamble then let him. I don't see why there such a big concern for something so little.
