Red Sox History Question???

I have been researching Red Sox history and have not been able to find an answer to one of my questions anywhere. I am curious as to Why the name was changed from the early nicknames Boston Americans, Puritans, Pilgrims and Plymouth Rocks to Red Sox. Was there a write in or a fan vote???? If anyone has any information on this it would be appreciated. Thanks

No, the owner changed the name. If I recall it went to red sox after they started wearing red stockings on their uniform after they became the Pilgrims or whatever.

 

As to WHY the owner changed them (other than the red sox change) I don't know. But I do know it was just an owner thing, they didn't really do the whole fan/media/pop culture/market research thing back in the early 1900s.

Heh, this reminds me, I have my research paper due on November 7th on the Red Sox.
