bounced around???...come on...he was on the DL for a long time, he made rehab starts...he got shelled as reliver and he is getting slaughtered as a starter.

you'll have find something better than being bounced around. IMO

I really don't know what his problem is. I don't know whether it's his ankle to the fact that it's been a very abnormal season for him, that's what im trying to say

Francona obviously thought that he would become the old Curt Schilling by throwing as many pitches as possible but obviously that just hasn't worked

what would you say the reason is for his problems?

let me repeat the devil rays and the royals have conducted batting practice.

meanwhile in other news: olerud goes 3 for 4 and then millar gets the start. huh?

Yeah, its weird, but Olerud is a lefty and so is Kazmir.

I didnt hear about anyone in the bullpen, I cant believe schilling would stay in..this is going to be among the uglier games...

who would think that curt schilling would be sacrficed to get shelled to let the bullpen rest.

personally, I think he should be DL'd once and for all, he wants to help because of (selfish) pride but as a closer and a starter he is hurting us.

well he got a strike out, but man, francona just has marbles between his legs and is willing to get the team slaughtered so as not to hurt curt's feelings.. unbelievable.

Keeping Schilling in the rotation is out of necessity at this point. Who else would we start? Papelbon has been in the pen for awhile (although i imagine we may see him soon tonight) and isn't start ready. The worst thing is that Schilling's velocity is really low, and his location is bad. That's a really bad combination. The hope is that he WILL start to find it eventually. The problem is that we need to win, NOW, not later, and we don't have the team for that. Foulke sucks. Schilling sucks. The rest of our staff is mediocre at best, with Clement getting a solid B+. The rest of the guys are B's, capable of pitching at the A- level when really on.

Also, Hansen is hurt and not able to join the sox and may be shut down for the season. YIKES!!!

even if Schilling has a 1-2-3 inning, id love for someone to ask Francona what Schilling did to earn a walk to the mound to start the 3rd

this ranks up there as one of the worst managing moves I have ever seen.

Not if you consider the teams needs. #1 - They need Curt if they are going to be serious about contending in the playoffs, and what he needs right now is innings to get his command back (command has been his biggest problem). #2 - The BP has been worked lately, so why not let him eat a few innings.

EDIT: 1-2-3 inning.....think the BP could have delivered one of those?

Francona is managing like it's May. We're on the brink of September with the f***ing Yankees breathing down our necks

Francona is managing like a guy that knows he needs his best pitcher back. He's managing like a guy who's had several key injuries to his pitching staff. He's managing like a guy that has a worn out bullpen. He's managing like the cubboard is bare, which is smart, because when it comes to pitching, it is.

Again, the logic is that Schilling is as good when really bad as Gonzales is usually. Also, the hope is that a) the team will make the playoffs and that B) by then Schilling has either come back to normal or he has figured out how to get guys out without velocity or location. Letting Schilling rest for the rest of the year at this point is really kind of pointless too... what are we saving the guy for? He's 38 and the sox pay him a shitload of money to pitch. He says he can pitch, he's just ineffective.

I don't think the decision has anything to do with not wanting to hurt Curt's feelings and has much more to do with what the sox feel is best for the team in the long run. Ultimately its as much an Owners/GM's decision as it is the managers or pitcher's decision. Francona has shown NO difficulty pulling Schilling when he feels like its appropriate. I know its easy to give him s***, but he consistently does what HE thinks is best, regardless of what the media or us think. It won a world series.

Finally, it makes sense that Millar would start against Kazmir but he shouldn't start EVER against righties. I understand the sentiment: hopefully Millar will get hot and make up for the drop of 15 homeruns or so in the final two months. I think you're right to believe that that WON'T happen this year. Millar looks just awful.

Graffanino may not be a 5-tool player, but he's a f***ing dirt-dog of a complete player if I've ever seen one.
