This is a good pickup for the Yankees. We have more depth now and he can come up big in big games. He will be a bench player. Embree is pitching much better as of late.

I actually think it would make them better. Cano hits like .257 against lefties, Bellhorn can spot a start here and there with a LHP on the hill.

Exactly. He's not great, but he'll be better than Cano in certain situations.

Besides, hitting hasn't been our problem this season...overworking infielders has been. Bellhorn can definitely help us in that area.

Yeah I'm not sure about putting all my faith in Cano in a big spot. Torre pinch hit Tino for him in a tie game with men on base two outs, who has a lower BA and is also a lefty, so I guess Torre isn't ready to fully trust Cano yet either.

He was hardly another team's 'trash', but he seems to be the exception to the rule this year. Leiter was trash and he's turned in solid performances more often than not (6 innings, 2 hits the other day?), Chacon has been our best pitcher, a godsend along with Aaron Small. So far so good with Matt Lawton too.

Again, what is the harm? If Bellhorn sucks, he won't play. If he produces, he's an asset.

I'll give you Chacon, because he had a decent if not solid year 2 years ago, but struggled big time last year. That being said, any 'good' pitcher looks like an 'ace' once he gets out of that launching pad in Colorado. Hey yank fans remember your boy Jeff Weaver? You single-handedly turned him from good to horrible and now he has resurrected himself as an ace matching Clemens pitch for pitch in LA over the weekend. Like Clemens his record is deceiving. If he had any consistent run production behind him he would have easily 4 - 5 more wins.

Yeah, that yankee mystique is infallible. :thumbdown

our old pale embree chimes in on the signing

"He's a great defensive player who will fit well in this clubhouse," Embree said. "He doesn't say much, but he plays great defense and he's been through the battles."

not great, average

how many homeruns did bellhorn hit this year?and btw what depth the f***ing player sucks, there just adding trash

He has a good on base percentage. He's not a terrible infielder. Ya know maybe a change of scenery is what he needs.

Why do you guys still think Giambi is on steroids? Do you really think think he would be stupid enough to still do them, when he was the only who admitted to doing them. They probably test him more than anyone. He's a amazing hitter.

great line "a change of careers".

his AAA numbers suck, he sucks and that qualifies him to be a yankee.

because the yankees suck.

so much for the fenway ban.

Yeah he would still do them he has the intelligence of a rock.

You'd have to be a really stupid MF-er to get back on the goods after all he went through and the scrutiny he must be under. However, it isn't too hard to see that he looks a bit bigger - check the shoulders, neck and chest - than he did even 2+ months ago.

That's great logic right there....

I am, simply, in awe.

Maybe he isn't on the roids, but there's still HGH which by major league standards is still untestable.

hello Mr. Clutch

Uhhh, Bellhorn is hitting over .300 at Yankee Stadium. He hit that big homer in the ALCS. He played pretty well in big games vs. the Yankees. OWNED.

From Peter Gammons' chat on ESPN.com:

Mike (NY, NY): Hey there Peter........Bellhorn to the Yankees? I don't understand it!

Peter Gammons: (2:06 PM ET ) I think it's a great move for the Yankees. Robinson Cano hasn't played well and sometimes he's been a little distracted. Bellhorn has proven that he can play in the pennant race. Mark was really bothered by the booing he received at Fenway, if you look at his stats in Boston and away from home, he would be third in the AL in OBS and Slg away from Boston. It's a great move by Brian Cashman to pick up Bellhorn.

so you're expecting him to start hitting like over .300 then, and strikeout very little?? you are the one who is owned if you think like that

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

by the way, bellhorn's 16 games at Yankee Stadium, he is a .220 hitter there

this is funny every yankee fans is trilled about this , that will go away quick after a couple a week, after he has 10 k's in 20 at bat

I'm not 'thrilled;' I'm excited. As I am whenever we add a new guy to the roster; this is baseball...anything can happen.

It's Official.

I checked the roster and his name's on there; I was a bit upset, I clicked on it and expected to see a clean shaven, neat Bellhorn (in accordance with Yankee policy)...but they're still using his Red Sox picture. :thumbdown

I guess some people liked him. I'll just have to wait and see how he is in pinstripes before I really judge him.

That's funny because last time I checked you have terrible starters except maybe Wells, and your bullpen is in shambles. I'm not predicting the Sox will falter you have a great hitting ballclub, but you have no right to criticize another teams pitchers when you have big problems of your own.
