That trade is so bad that Theo would have to smoke all the crack in the country before making it. I really like Huff and wanted the Sox to get him last year, but come on. Cameron, and Huff aren't nearly enough for a sure fire HOF with a few good years still left in him. If we're moving Manny I was atleast 2 guys who can help us now and atleast 2 top prospects. I don't understand how we would only get 2 mediocre players for one of the best hitters in the game.

And we're giving up prospects in that trade! Theo wouldn't survive that kind of blunder.

Giving up prospects is certainly not something I can conceive of doing to get Cameron and Huff. Especially since one of them would only end up being a back up once Nixon comes back unless he moves back to the infield. Plus Cameron has been upset in NY since he had to move out of center so it doesn't make sense to me to take him on here to play left (though I assume giving his skills in the field he'd probably end up being the regular right fielder and we'd move Nixon to left.

However, one thing that we have to consider is that Ramirez is a bad contract and getting rid of a bad contract is always going to yield less than you would trading the same caliber player who makes less. The Red Sox won't get a top prospect back in return. If you think David Wright will be in a Red Sox uniform anytime soon, you will be vastly disappointed. The best thing we can do is to take on players that can help us win, but who don't have a lot of money owed to them. Cameron's deal expires after this season with a club option for 2006 and Huff's deal runs through 2006. Neither are very bad contracts, both might benefit from a change of scenery. Minus the prospects, I think this is the kind of deal you have to expect for Manny.

The real benefits of any deal we make involving Manny won't show up until after the season when we have more money to go out and sign a Burnett or a reliever like Cliff Politte or Scot Shields

Cameron would play center so that we could move Damon's weak arm into left where the throws aren't as long.

This is absurd. I agree that if we were to trade manny, I would want a top tier pitcher, a very good hitting outfielder and 2 top prospects. Theo isn't going to let the Mets get Baez and Manny.. Manny is way too good to be traded, and way too expensive. The above idea of not being able to get a top prospect is probably accurate.

However, Theo COULD turn a Manny trade into a world series and I think he could turn it into a WS this year, and a good contending team into the future. I don't doubt that. He could put the pieces together in the right way, but a lot of people would miss Manny. The dude is just good; especially with Ortiz. Theo could also turn getting rid of Manny into a few really good free agent signings in the future and an open spot for minor leaguers to come up.

I will call for Theo's head for the rest of the time he is there if that is how the trade goes down. Manny is better than Huff and Cameron combined, and Sanchez is probably going to be a future ace or at least a solid #2 pitcher.

ps sports writes i guess this is the only thing you guys got to talk about.. wha happend to the a.j. burnett trade..since manny request out if u take man ram out ur takin ortiz out to.. ortiz would prob turn on the sox.Manny help Ortiz get big... he was nothing with the TWINS?

That's just stupid. Why would Papi turn on the Sox if Manny WANTS to be traded. The Red Sox wouldn't have ever considered a trade had Manny not asked out.

My problem with this trade - not only do we lose Ramirez and get two mediocre outfielders - which blows - but we give up TWO TOP PROSPECTS in Anibel Sanchez and Kelly Shoppach.

The prospects include right-hander Yusmeiro Petit and outfielder Lastings Milledge from the Mets and catcher Kelly Shoppach and right-hander Anibal Sanchez from the Red Sox.

There is no WAY this is happening. Huff and Cameron have lifetime OBP's in the .340 range. I just don't see it making any sense for what the sox need. If we also got Baez then I could see it, I guess, as an attempt to make THIS team as good as possible. But I don't see Cameron being that good anyway. I think its all a diversion.

if this happens, theo should be fired the minute he makes the trade.

If this happens Theo has nothing to worry about since Henry and Lucchino would both have to sign off on this well in advance before anything happens.

we dont get baez, the METS do. all we get is 2 above average outfielders and give up a

hall of fame outfielder and two of our top 10 prospects.

The only above average outfielder in this tade is that hall of famer. Cameron is very average and Huff is crap.

Manny's trade value is MUCH higher than that, regardless of how much he makes. Cameron is mediocre and I don't know alot about Huff, but everyone here seems to think he sucks, so bad fit. If the Mets are going to be that stingy, Theo should tell Manny to pipe down and playing f***ing baseball, because he is worth much more than that. And also, if we WERE to trade him, I would want a power right-handed bat to compliment Ortiz to keep that Left-Right combo, otherwise specialist's (if we were to get a lefty) would feast on us, or just walk one to get to the other. BAD trade. This is probably some rumor to get people steamed up about this trade so Theo can work under the radar with Florida for A.J. Burnett.

Why would they be pulled in, in the first place??? :dunno: This trade was ******** from the start. IMO, it was to get the media off the Burnett deal talks and whip rumors around about Manny.

Three-team megadeal hits late snag

A proposed three-team deal involving the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets and Tampa Bay Devil Rays "hit a roadblock" Friday night, according to a baseball official familiar with the discussions.

The deal proposed would have sent unhappy Boston slugger Manny Ramirez and Tampa Bay closer Danys Baez to the Mets, with the Red Sox acquiring outfielder/designated hitter Aubrey Huff and outfielder Mike Cameron, and the Devil Rays getting two prospects apiece from the Mets and Red Sox.

But with a 4 p.m. ET deadline looming Sunday, it could be too late to finish the blockbuster on time.

"I don't know if it's completely dead," said an official of one of the three teams. "But it's hit a roadblock … unless someone has some other thoughts."

A source said the Red Sox felt they could not go ahead with trading Ramirez and two prime prospects -- reportedly catcher Kelly Shoppach and right-hander Anibal Sanchez -- if all they were receiving was New York's Cameron and Tampa Bay's Huff. So they went back to the Mets "for more pieces," the source reported. At that point, the Mets "squashed the whole thing" and talks broke off.

What's uncertain now is whether the deal can be revived, or even whether any portion of it can be revived. The Mets had been talking separately to the Devil Rays about Baez, and the Red Sox had been talking with Tampa Bay about Huff. Then on Friday afternoon, the teams made an attempt to connect the two trades. The Devil Rays were described by sources as being ecstatic about the prospects they would have received -- the Mets were prepared to include right-hander Yusmeiro Petit and outfielder Lastings Milledge -- so they're expected to keep pressing the Mets and Red Sox to put the pieces back together.

But if those efforts take all weekend, "by that time the deadline will be over," said an official of one of the three teams. And that might leave all three clubs empty-handed at the deadline. So the most likely scenario now is that the teams make one more effort Saturday to see if there's another combination that works. And if not, they would be forced to move on to Plan B.
