Stats question

Hi:

 

I was looking at Manny Ramirez's 04 stats, and here is what I got:

At bats (AB) = 568

Hits (H) = 175

Walks (BB) = 82

Strike outs (SO) = 124

Hit by pitch (HBP) = 6

Ground outs (GO) =130

Fly outs (AO) = 140

 

When I add them: H + BB + SO + HBP + GO + AO = 657

The problem with this number (657) is that Ramirez had only 568 at bats.

Does anybody have any explanation to this mystery?

His walks don't count as at bats. 568 + 82 + 6 = 656. Walks and HBP dont count as at bats. I'm sure one other is accounted for somehow, but I'm not sure. I hope that answers your question.

Not even sure what you were trying to do there.

 

PA= AB + BB + HBP + SF

AB= PA - BB - HBP - SF

Yeah, 657 would be PA, or Plate Appearences.
