My dad was a huge Red Sox fan for 60 years or so. He grew up in Louisville and was a faithful fan of their Louisville Minor league team. He saw many of the greats there and of course Ted was his all time favorite. Does anyone have any info on the old Louisville farm team? My dad died last year and I miss him terribly but the pain has subsided since last night. Go Sox!

Hey, and welcome to the site. Unfortunately, I don't know much offhand about any Louisville Minor League team, and I doubt very much that anyone here would. Maybe a google search or something along those lines would turn something up? I'll see what I can find in the meantime.

For my 2000th post on talksox:

I was able to find some sites pertaining to the Louisville Bats:

http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/teams/view.asp?id=226

http://www.batsbaseball.com/

They are the Cincinnatti Reds AAA affiliate. They seem to only be 5 years old though, according to the team history page:

http://www.batsbaseball.com/franchisehistory.cfm

From this site:

Louisville was a member of the National League in 1876 and 1877. After spending two seasons in the National League, the River City fielded a team in the American Association from 1882 - 1891 before returning to the National League for eight seasons. All in all, with the exception of one season (1890 American Association Champions), these years proved to be of the losing variety. The Louisville teams, especially those in the National League, were clearly overmatched. From 1902 on, Louisville has been regarded as a top-notch minor league city.

Louisville did go through two brief periods (1963-1967 & 1973-1981) without minor league baseball. It is worth noting that Louisville lost teams during these periods due to extraneous reasons. The first drought occurred due to the disbanding of the American Association, with the second due to the expansion of Fairgrounds stadium.

The history page is probably your best bet for information. I hope that helps! And again, welcome.
