Up til yesterday, player for player, I would have taken the Sox over the Yanks. I wouldn't have considered "the intangibles" (like many of the Yanks players with tons of playoff experience, not to mention come-from-behind playoff experience, a Platinum Manager, the "mystique", etc. etc) But Shilling being done is a huge blow; problably more so mentally than anything. It would take a very competent manager to deal with this sudden blow to the team; and Francona is not that manager. He just doesn't have the goods. It's over. It's time to accept this fact.

wait a second. It's way not over.

Clearly, this team has been able to compensate for bozo Franclowna...

We showed a lot of guts last night.

It aint over by any means.

We do need a pedroesque outing.

Oh come on. Curt had one of the worst nights of his life, and Mussina nearly one of his best. Yet the Red Sox, though not quite succeeding in getting "55,000 New Yorkers to Shut Up", certainly gave them all heart palpitations.

Of course either team could win the championship, and that's why the games are played ;) But I think it's a pretty safe bet that Boston takes 4 out of the next 6 games. How often does one see even the "partial" perfect game that Mussina dealt last night? In spite of that, there was only perhaps a two-hit difference in the outcome of that game. And it's far more likely that the remaining pitching performances will fall short af that magnitude.

If the Red Sox continue to play as they already have over the last two months, the Yankees will have to play better than they have all year if they want to take the cake this year.

I really appreciate your positive attitude. But in the end the team that wins is the one with the most runs. Everything else doesn't matter. Certainly anything is possible. I will feel much better if Pedro wins tonight and they head back to Boston with a split. And certainly even another loss tonight doesn't mean they cant come back and win 4, but the liklihood given all else..... Any other time you might give the benefit of the doubt, but we are talking about the Red Sox here. The weight of Red Sox nation is on Pedro's shoulder. Can he stand 55,000 people chanting "whose your daddy"? Let's face it, Red Sox fans heaped it on Clemens in 99 and he had to be taken out of the game in the 3rd -- I was there. RRROOOOGGGEEEERRRR It was euphoric. It will take a superman effort from Pedro to overcome. I really hope he has it in him, but I must admit, I am no longer worried about the vacation we planned in Orlando, FL over Halloween.
