Personally, I hate Sherman and I think he's a complete moron, but he's good for coming up with some wacky trade scenarios, so wacky they might work.

Anyways, here's what he had to say about the Mets today.

Tom Glavine to his home-state Red Sox for Doug Mientkiewicz and Trot Nixon

Our executives were split on that. If the Mets move Glavine, they have to think about a starting pitcher. Is Florida ready to move A.J. Burnett? Is Oakland GM Billy Beane ready to move the $4.8 million due in 2005 for Barry Zito, a once favored pupil of Mets pitching coach Rick Peterson? At the least, if the Mets cannot get Tino Martinez or Mientkiewicz, they should talk to Beane about Scott Hatteberg, who is due $2.4 million in 2005.

What does this look like from the Sox standpoint? Can Nixon ever stay healthy, and can Millar adequately replace Mientkiewicz as the Full-time 1B again? Also, it looks like it opens up RF for a free agent acquistion.

Laughable. Nixon can stay healthy, this was his first year of injuries, and he is a big threat when he is healty (even if I do hate him). Mientkiewicz is a great first baseman, and he has helped the team out tremendously first base wise. Glavine will soon be 39 years old. I doubt the sox would give up so much for him.

This was his first year in which he missed the majority of the season. Even last year he went on the DL a few times played in ~130 games, 152 the previous year, 148 in 2001, 123 in 2000, 124 in 1999 (though I'm not exactly sure if those were as result of injuries).

Nixon hasn't been injured too much and he dominates righties. Mientwizc(?) is great defensively.

No way would I do this trade in order to get a 39 year old that is at the brink of retirement.

I don't think I'd trade those two for a guy like Glavine either (like I said, Sherman is crazy..)/

If I'm Omar Minaya and I'm looking to trade Glavine, I look no further than Boston. Seems to be an ideal fit for both Glavine and the Sox. I'd be looking to trade Glavine for Mark Bellhorn and Bronson Arroyo..and IMO, even that is kind of farfetched.

As aforementioned, Glavine is too old to go after. Sure I'd like to have him, but at anything more than a semi- legit prospect, no. However, I do still maintain the Sox need a lefty in the lineup and if they found another one who's younger, etc. (i.e. Kazmir or someone like him) then I'd consider it more.

But, if you want to get a player like Kazmir, you're going to need to forfeit a very good player in ret...wait a minute. Damnit.

I like Kazmir, he hasn't done too bad against us but he is way way way way too wild. He has too many walks and hit batters. He's kind of like a young Arroyo.

I think we gotta keep Arroyo and as he progresses in his career, the better he's gonna get.

Not going to happen. Glavine was bad in 2003, started off strong again in '04, but fell apart down the stretch. Now, add in the Shea Stadium factor that boosted his numbers and the Fenway factor that would inflate his ERA. Don't forget, Fenway has his dreaded QuesTec as well. No thanks. A healthy Trot Nixon (which he will be) is far more valuable than a healthy Tom Glavine.
