The Red Sox haven't lost in two full trips through their starting rotation. On Saturday afternoon, they begin the effort to make it a third, hosting Texas in the second of three games at Fenway Park.

On Friday night, Boston shut out the Rangers, 2-0, behind seven strong innings from Pedro Martinez and solo home runs from Manny Ramirez and Bill Mueller.

The man who started the streak -- Tim Wakefield --gets another shot at adding to it on Saturday. In the process, he can improve his personal winning streak to four games and seven of his last eight. Wakefield has allowed just six runs over 21 innings in his last three starts and has already faced Texas twice this year. On May 2, he took the loss despite allowing just two runs over seven innings, while he came out with a no-decision in a 6-5 Rangers win after a six-inning, five-run outing on July 11.

Wakefield faces Chris Young, a 6-foot-10 former Princeton basketball player who will be making his third career start, and first away from Ameriquest Field in Arlington.

Gary Matthews Jr. has reached base in eight of his 14 plate appearances over his last four games.

Quotable

"You know what? I look at the scoreboard. I look at the standings, because it's important. But I'm really more concerned about us. Because if we do what we're doing, then we're going to wake up, whenever the time comes, and we're going to be OK." -- Red Sox manager Terry Francona

Lets go for three sweeps in a row and really put the wildcard out of reach. Game time is at 1:20.

I don't even understand how Texas can be considered a wild card contender. They're pitching someone with TWO CAREER STARTS and the heart of the wild card race. Brutal. Their rotation is almost as bad as the Yankees'.

even if we lose, this team has started to jell. when they showed rivera getting clobbered, and then 7-0, and then Bells Do, man, I got tingles.

We cant be friggin stopped.

Never give up, never give in, f*** the yankees, we're going to win!@

Did anyone see that retard with the sign on top of the monster that read:

"attention yankees, objects in mirror appear closer then they are" word for word. Not only did he spell "than" wrong, but he got the whole POINT wrong. We're closer than we appear, not farther away than we appear dumass.

But yes, 8-6 is good. We're coming back! Like sarasox said, even if we lose, we just proved we're playing beyond well. Think about it, 1.5 games back of the yankees, who jus tlost 7-0 to the Orioles.

We still looked damn good in that loss. We refused to be buried, and came back hard. If Wakefield didn't put us in a hole we win. Schilling will keep us in it tommorow, and Sox bounce back and win. The Yankees looked awful, they just rolled over and got destroyed
