Earlier this week, the Milwaukee Brewers moved starter Aaron Civale to the bullpen in favor of top prospect Jacob Misiorowski. The move has prompted the 30-year-old right hander to request a trade from the Brewers in hopes of remaining a starter with another team, according to Ken, Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic. In five starts his season, Civale has a 4.29 ERA (4.30 FIP) and a mediocre 15.2% strikeout minus walk rate. He's been particularly susceptible to the long ball this season as he's given up five home runs across 22 innings pitched. Civale is making $8 million this season, which will be prorated based on his service time this season, and will be entering free agency at seasons end. He'd be a plenty serviceable arm for a Boston Red Sox rotation that has dealt with an onslaught of injuries this year, both in and outside of the rotation. For more information on Civale, check out this articles related to the news on our sister site, Brewer Fanatic. Do you think the Red Sox should kick the tires on Civale? Or with the rotations stacking up, would it not be smart to invest in a rental? Join the conversation in the comments! View full rumor

Earlier this week baseball America updated their top 100 prospects for the month of June. The Boston Red Sox, who had five players make the list in May, now lead baseball with six players ranked inside the top 100. Roman Anthony, who should have reached the big leagues by now, is tagged as the best prospect in baseball. Meanwhile, Marcelo Mayer (#7), Franklin Arias (#65), Peyton Tolle (#88), and Brandon Clarke (#90) remain on the list from the May release. Kristian Campbell, previously ranked as the best prospect, has graduated from the list. Jhostnyxon Garcia debuts on the list coming in as the 98th rated prospect in all of baseball. Garcia, who earned a promotion to Triple-A Worcester last month, has been debating the top level of Minor League Baseball. He is slashing .364/.386/.673 with four home runs in 57 plate appearances. With the big-league club in shambles, how long will it be until we see some of these names at Fenway? Join the conversation in the comments.

The Boston Red Sox are 29-33 and nine games out of first place in the American League East. While they haven't waived the white flag themselves, Jeff Passan of ESPN is reporting that another GM indicated that star outfielders Wilyer Abreu and Jarren Duran could be moved before the trade deadline. It's been a disappointing season thus for for the Red Sox who entered the year with aspirations of ending their three-year postseason absence. Unfortunately, under performance and a bevy of injuries has the club four games under .500 and 4.5 games out of a wild card spot. Duran and Abreu would draw significant trade interest if officially put on the block. Both players have been well above-average producers at the plate this season. Do you think the Red Sox should move these two or ride out the injuries and stay the course?

Following a 5-0 shutout on Saturday night, the Boston Red Sox are expected to make two roster moves on Sunday ahead of the rubber match against the Atlanta Braves. Chris Henrique of the Boston Sports Journal was the first to report the Eaton move, and Chris Cotillo of MassLive was the first on the recall of Luis Guerrero. While Eaton isn't the position player Red Sox fans were hoping to seen selected, the 28-year-old utility man can play all three outfield positions, as well as the hot corner, and has a 116 wRC+ in 225 plate appearances at Triple-A Worchester. He's had two stints in the big-leagues with the Kansas City Royals with a career slash line of .201/.266./.283 with one home run and 14 stolen bases. The Red Sox signed him to a minor league deal this offseason. Guerrero, who has pitched 5 1/3 innings this season for the Red Sox, is being recalled after a short stint in Triple-A Worcester. In fact, adding him to the roster today would require the Red Sox to make a corresponding injured list move as it's within the 10 days of being demoted. Guerrero struggled a bit in 20 1/3 Triple-A innings, but otherwise has looked deserving of bigger role with the Red Sox. Albeit a small sample, Guerrero has a 0.59 ERA, 2.42 FIP, and a 14.0% K-BB rate in 15 1/3 career big-league innings. UPDATE: RHP Justin Slaten has been placed on the IL.

Sean McAdam of MassLive is reporting that Rafael Devers considered asking for a trade shortly after the Boston Red Sox signed third baseman Alex Bregman to a three-year, $120 million deal. Ultimately, it's unknown if the request was formally ever made, but there has seemingly been some tension between Devers camp and Red Sox brass since Bregman joined the club. Initially, right as camp was getting underway, Devers was adamant that he would not be moving off the hot corner. Fortunately, he came out just a day or two ago and backed off those comments stating he'd do "whatever the Red Sox want [him] to do". Red Sox skipper Álex Cora hasn't announced any decisions on who will play wear and Bregman has been manning third baseman in spring training while Devers ramps up for the season. Prior to signing, Bregman had shared with teams that he was open to moving to second base. Moreover, many suspected that, if Bregman was added, Devers might shift to first and the Red Sox would look to move Tristan Casas. Alas, we are roughly two weeks away and all three players remain on the club while there haven't been any rumors to suggest what the Opening Day line up may look like. What does your Opening Day lineup look like? Where do Devers, Bregman, and Casas slot in? Join the conversation in the comments! View full rumor

Aside from acquiring Garrett Crochet, it's been a fairly quiet offseason for the Boston Red Sox. After reportedly being "in the mix" on Alex Bregman over the last couple of weeks, Jon Morosi of MLB Network is reporting that they have had "recent communication" with the St. Louis Cardinals regarding Nolan Arenado. There doesn't seem to be any clear indication on what this means for the Red Sox and Bregman but, as Morosi points out, a trade before Bregman signing would have implications on his market. Rumors have been swirling around the Red Sox pair of corner infielders, particularly Triston Casas being the subject of trade rumors. Any acquisition of a third basemen would almost assuredly put the nail in the coffin for Casas in Red Sox uniform as Rafael Devers would shift over to first base. The Cardinals have been looking to shed salary as they look towards a multi-year rebuild. They owe Arenado $64MM over the next three seasons: $27MM this year, $22MM in 2026, and $15MM in 2027. Do you think the Red Sox should make a move for Arenado or stay in the fight for Bregman? View full rumor

Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe ($$) is reporting that the Red Sox are interested in right-handed starting pitcher Walker Buehler. He's another name of the laundry list of pitchers who have been tied to the team, including Corbin Burnes, Max Fried, Blake Snell (before he was signed). That doesn't include trade candidates such as Garrett Crochet, Bryce Miller, and Bryan Woo. What makes this report surprising is that Buehler, a former top prospect, is coming off an abysmal 2024 season upon his return from Tommy John surgery. The surgery forced him to miss the better part of two seasons and upon his return he posted a 5.38 ERA / 5.54 FIP with a lowly 10.5% K-BB rate. Previously, Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow had spoken of raising the ceiling to compete for the AL East and to make a deep playoff run, yet Buehler is more of a high-risk bounce back arm. While there is upside to bet on with Buehler, it's just not the type of move I'd expect the Red Sox to make given the previous statements made by Breslow. Earlier this offseason, MLB Trade Rumors predicted the 30-year-old to get a one year deal worth $15 million. Would you want the Red Sox to sign him for that number? Or at all?

Alex Speier of the Boston Globe is reporting that the Red Sox have requested another meeting with Juan Soto to nail down a price point for the superstar services. It remains to be seen whether the meeting will happen, but it's hard not to be excited about the Red Sox delivering on their promise to do what it takes to build one of the best rosters in baseball. What is the MAXIMUM years and dollars you'd be willing to give Soto? View full rumor

The sweepstakes for the prized possession of the 2025 Free Agent class is possibly nearing its end. Yesterday, Andy Martino of SNY stated "Everyone I talk to who's involved in this at any level believes that the news will drop this week, before [the Winter Meetings in] Dallas." J.P. Hoopstra of Newsweek disputed that rumor citing Soto's agent, Scott Boras. Marino Pepén took it a step further, indicating the Mets, Red Sox, and Blue Jays (in that order) are the finalists for the superstars services. Last week, Hector Gomez reported that the Red Sox made an offer of 13 years, $625 million. Despite quite a bit of skepticism from fans and other insiders alike, this was largely confirmed by Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Whether the sweepstakes ends ahead of the Winter Meetings or not, the Red Sox are still in the running for the superstar. If the reports are true, they're current behind the New York Mets as favorites. Do you think the Red Sox should up their ante for a second time? View full rumor

UPDATE: it's being widely reported, that a deal has been agreed upon. The Boston Red Sox are on the verge of nearing a deal with left-handed reliever Aroldis Chapman. Details of the potential deal have not been leaked anywhere, but the power pitcher is entering his age-37 season and has inked back-to-back one-year deals with the Kansas City Royals in 2023 and Pittsburgh Pirates in 2024 worth $3.75 million and $10.5 million, respectively. After a solid but unspectacular season with the Pirates, I'd imagine he would get something between those two figures on a short-term deal. With the Pirates, Chapman made 68 appearances sporting a 3.79 ERA / 2.96 FIP and a 22.3% K-BB rate. Even as he's in the twilight of his career, he's been able to maintain one of the fastest four-seamers in baseball, although hitters have found more success against the offering as of late as it carried a -1 run value in 2024. He also has a sinker and slider that he uses to generate soft contact and high whiff rates. What do you think about the Red Sox landing Chapman?

While we were enjoying our Thanksgiving rumors were swirling about the Red Sox and Juan Soto. If you filter through the noise, one credible source provided details on the Red Sox offer to superstar Juan Soto. Baseball Twitter was quick to react to Gomez's information -- mostly trying to discredit the insider. Gomez fired back with a reminder from 2022 when he was in on the Rafael Devers extension. Bottom-line: Gomez is a very credible source in the industry and there's no reason to think he would share information that wasn't vetted. The ~$48 million AAV would put him as the highest or 2nd highest in baseball depending on how you consider Shohei Ohtani's heavily deferred contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. What are your thoughts on the offer?

With one left-handed starter off the market, Jon Morosi of the MLB Network stoked the hot stove by stating that we should "pay close attention to the Boston Red Sox" in the Garrett Crochet trade market. He goes on to point out the Red Sox farm system having the capital to get a deal done. An interesting note that goes against a previous rumor is that the White Sox are so far away from their competitive window that they are looking for prospects who haven't debuted yet instead of putting together a deal headlined by Wilyer Abreu. The Red Sox have also been tied to Corbin Burnes and southpaw Max Fried, and of course superstar Juan Soto. If the Red Sox were to only net one of three pitchers named, which would be your preference? Keep in mind, any deal involving Crochet would come with the understanding that he would ink a long-term extension. View full rumor

Juan Soto spent last week meeting with a variety of teams including our Red Sox. While the meeting with the Red Sox was introductory and didn't include discussions about money, we now know what the 26-year-old superstar is looking for in a deal. Marino Pepén reports that Soto is looking for a 12-14 year deal with an average annual salary of $45 million and would like opt outs after years three and four. That deal would put him in the ballpark of the $600 million that many have speculated he would net this offseason. The opt-outs is a newer trend amongst some of the leagues top players, including the Minnesota Twins Carlos Correa and the Chicago Cubs Cody Bellinger, so it isn't totally surprising for Soto to make that request. For the New York Yankees in 2024, Soto posted a .989 OPS with 41 home runs, seven stolen bases, and a 119:129 K:BB ratio. Would you be comfortable with the Red Sox meeting these demands?
