2 things I know about the great Earl Weaver: 1) he was madly in love with the 3-run homer and 2) he would have benched O'Neill for getting doubled up last night.
Good post, Vegas. All the bad news that prints to fit.
As for making the PO's, overachieving worked for the BRUINS in the 23-24 season. Let's hope overachieving will work for this season's SOX.
O'Neill has the most misleading OPS in MLB.
And not having Martin and Slaten definitely hurt, but this is a fragile team, so we shouldn't be surprised.
Why do I get the feeling the SOX FO would be happy to see the SOX go into a tailspin before the TDL, just so they wouldn't have to make a decision about their precious prospects? Maybe I'm wrong, but the FO hasn't done anything to make me think otherwise.
SOX played hard tonight, but there is no excuse for O'Neill not hustling back to 1st. He should have been benched for that, but most of today's managers don't want to piss players off.
More bad news:
The starters for the Dodgers tomorrow and Sunday are both LH. Not looking good. Our starters better be as good as Pivetta was tonight, because runs may be at a premium for the SOX.
Tough break for Pivetta. He definitely deserved better. Don't panic, SOX usually lose the 1st game of a series. Missed opportunities early on came back to bite SOX on the ass.
