  1. If DD didn’t make the trades for Sale and Kimbrel and sign JD. and Price as free agents there is no World Series title. If we added moncada, Kopech, Margot, Dubon , Basabe to this team there is no World Series title and there window is arguably not any longer unless Moncada and Kopech become Betts and Sale. Great young core and very smart moves created this team. Credit to Theo, Benand DD. For this team but no title without DD.
  2. Hard to say he’s foregoing the future when the marlins and the Sox were 2 of the youngest teams in baseball
  3. I agree many ways to build a team
  4. You do realize he created the 2003 marlins during the height of money ball. He hasn’t had to create a farm system the last 13 years look where his teams have finished. What I think is you are missing the boat on how many ways he has been successful. Will see how he does the next few years with the Redsox.
  5. Old school guy who just won a World Series. Many ways to build teams. The tigers run went almost 10 years.
  6. Man could not have said it any better. He has built teams through farm systems trades and free agents. Look at the early 90’s Expos and the 97 and 03 Marlins, great farm systems. He took one of the worst teams in history the 2003 tigers 3 years later they were in the World Series.
  7. Actually when has the competitive balance tax stopped any one from repeating, it’s not like the small market teams have poured money into there payroll and the only small market team to win since 2003 is the Royals. What has caused teams not to repeat is some randomness, if Beckett didn’t pull his oblique before 2008 playoffs great chance there would have been a repeat, if the Astros didn’t run into a Sox buzzsaw they probably would have repeated. The Yankees never scaled down until the past couple of years, they reloaded year after year. No team except maybe the 2003 Marlins scaled back after winning the World Series .
  8. Injuries and that oh s*** scared look on the mound were his downfall.
  9. The players will fight for no draft penalty so I’m not sure how bad it will be. Looking at the Sox during the Cherington years they had the same philosophy the Yankees have right now, a couple years of failure led to DD coming on, and realizing spending was important to rejuvenate the fan base. Now if the Yankees don’t ultimately win the World Series I would be interested if there philosophy changes. Signing a Machado or Harper though will ultimately lead them to the higher tax brackets.
  10. I do understand dropping out of the first round but those picks 20-40 are not very different. Realize it can’t go on forever, but also realize the next Cba is going to be a war, the players need the Sox, Yankees and Dodgers to freely spend. As to the Yankees when their young guys are at the stage the Sox are they are going to be in the same spot, that means they cannot be signing the expensive free agents like Machado or they always be over.
  11. Paying 32 million in luxury tax I am guessing they will be willing to pay it in 2020.The decision to reset will be based on the next Cba. If it’s not favorable I’m going to guess they will reset. Now I may be wrong (have been many times)but the Sox are worth close to 3 billion dollars I’m not sure 50 million will bother them. John Henry has always been about winning.
  12. You always seem to be dreaming, we will see rankings next year and judge then. My guess will be Sox around 24-25 and Yankees probably not much better. Right now unless both teams are dealing off the major league roster going to be hard to get a Kluber or Bauer.
  13. The 2018 draft with Cassas, Decker, Ward, Northcutt, Duran, Feltman , Shugart, Machamer, Cottam and Howlett looks like there best class in years. And the 2017 international signees with Flores, Diaz, Jimenez, Bello, and Miata has a ton of promise. Light at the end of the tunnel.
  14. Actually 2017 was looking better in the second half Houck had a much better second half and has a floor of an mlb reliever, scherff definitely had an uptick in the second half and schellenger was healthy the second half and could be a end of game reliever. 18 looks to be a potentially good draft and internationally with Flores, Diaz and Jimenez they have some high upside prospects even though they are far away. The teams ranking should look much better a year from now but unlike you I’m not dreaming of jumping over 10 spots.
  15. Heard Oakland is interested in him which would be a nice fit. I can’t see how he doesn’t get a major league contract.
  16. The Sox are knee deep in money I’m not sure they reset. Again a lot will depend on the next basic agreement.
  17. Spot on
  18. I don’t think the tax is the issue it’s the draft pick penalty, and if it’s only moving back 10 spots don’t think it’s much of an issue. Don’t think there’s any international restrictions unless we sign a free agent with a qualifying offer.
  19. I’m curious how far they will go over the tax and if resetting is really an issue. They will not be able to reset after next season and remain as competitive.
  20. My idiocy comment was because of your snarky comment
  21. 100% agreed
  22. Ben did a great job with the farm have to give him that, but to discredit DD’s history and ability to evaluate talent is just ludicrous.
  23. Lol
  24. Do you realize Dombrowski’s history he built the powerhouse Expos farm system from the mid 90’s. He built the Marlins championship team in 97 in 4 years. forced to strip that team down he was the architect of the 03 championship Marlins. Then took over one of the worst teams in history the early 2000 tigers and made them a very good team. There is no doubting his talent evaluation.
  25. I agree he would be number 1 no disputing that. He was considered the throw in for the Kimbrel trade after having just been drafted, his biggest mistake to me in the prospect trades. Right now I have no qualms on any of those trades.
