  1. I said this in another thread: if Bloom doesn't trade Eovaldi tomorrow, he should be fired. JD should be moved too, but he isn't going to bring back very much. He is starting to look old, he can't play the field, and it isn't all that hard to find a DH. The Mets found Vogelbach pretty easily, a player with more plate discipline than JD Martinez.
  2. If Bloom doesn't trade Evaoldi by the deadline tomorrow, he is totally incompetent and deserves to be fired.
  3. What has happened to this organization? Message to John Henry: call Theo. He probably doesn't want to come back but you could always try, no harm in trying.
  4. Bad trade for the Yankees--Montas isn't healthy and Waldichuk is a future stud. Wow, Cashman is really desperate.
  5. It doesn't make sense to trade for Josh Bell. But it does make sense for the Red Sox to sign Josh Bell in free agency after the season. Casas could be the starting 1b next year and Bell could be the starting DH. However, I don't know if Casas will be ready at the start of next season--he might need more time in the minors.
  6. I Just looked it up: JD has a OPS+ of 121. Danny Vogelbach has an OPS+ of 121, thus meaning that the Mets would likely have zero interest in JD at this point. They can't possibly carry two DH types of their roster. Who was Danny Vogelbach traded for? A decent young relief pitcher, right? Accordingly, I would think the JD's trade value is basically the same.
  7. I can't picture the Mets wanting JD Martinez at this point. Is JD much better than Vogelbach? Without looking at the stats, I would think the difference is somewhat minor and Vogelbach probably has better plate discipline than JD. Moreover, I don't think the Mets can carry both Vogelbach and JD on their roster--that would require 2 roster spots for two DH types. But the Mets are probably interested in Vazquez. My guess is that JD Martinez has a pretty limited trade market and that the Red Sox can't get much for him, maybe a minor league bullpen arm with some upside but that would be about it.
  8. With the Mookie trade, we can question the decision to make Verdugo such a priority. The Red Sox already had a Verdugo type of player in Benintendi. Why would the Red Sox want two of them? They could have just kept Benintendi, not traded for Verdugo, and made the Dodgers include another player. The move from Benintendi to Verdugo was weird, a sideways move, and is part of the total mismanagement of the OF that has turned into one of the least productive OFs in baseball. Of course, the other problem with the Mookie trade: Jeter Downs is a bust. The Bradley trade was laughable it was so bad. It was laughable when it was made and looks even worse now. I think Bloom gets one more year. He has made some stupid decisions--not doing enough at last year's trade deadline to upgrade the pitching was arguably another mistake--but GMs can improve. Cashman has made a lot of mistakes. Theo signed Crawford, Heyward, and supposedly he never would have traded Hanley for Beckett (and Beckett was the guy who carried the Red Sox to a championship in 2007). It is still too early to give up on Bloom but there are some troubling signs, that's for sure. I'll be curious to see how Bloom handles the 2022 trade deadline, but the early returns are not promising. There is absolutely no excuse for holding on to JD Martinez and Eavoldi. We will see what Bloom decides to do. Holding on to Bogaerts is a completely different situation, since the Red Sox will get draft compensation for him. But they can't get draft compensation for JD and Eavoldi and so the Red Sox need to get something for them now. The season is over, although perhaps Bloom lives in la-la land and believes the Red Sox still have a chance.
  9. Mookie Betts is gone, Benintendi is gone (and now a Yankee), but the Red Sox brought back Jackie Bradley! Let's hear it for Jackie Bradley and our great GM who brought the stud back to Boston. This all makes me giddy when I think of the moves that are to come.
  10. Not sure why we would go after John Henry after all he has done for the Red Sox. I get it, Betts isn't here and that sucks, but the Red Sox have one of the biggest payrolls in 2022 and are a last place team. Some of the blame has to fall on the general manager, the guy who went out of his way to go with a RF platoon of Jackie Bradley dipshit and Muslim Arroyo, not to mention the other areas of weakness on the 2022 team.
  11. I don't think King's injury was a big deal, he was due for a major regression anyway.
  12. Bloom's comments concern me: Maybe it is just GM talk, but he actually thinks the Red Sox have a chance. Interesting how he refers to the injuries using them as an excuse. That's what a bad GM does, starts blaming other things besides his own decisions.
  13. I read this somewhere -- funny but true: "Red Sox are only a 1B, RF, CF, LF, closer, and a couple of starters away from making a run."
  14. Fangraphs playoff odds: 33%
  15. They should be sellers. Problem is, is Bloom smart enough to figure that out or is he desperate enough to be a buyer at the deadline? Can we trust Bloom to make the right choice? For the believers in Bloom: when does John Henry begin to think about replacing him? Bloom will survive this year no matter what, I realize that, but let's say, for hypothetical purposes, that the Red Sox aren't any good next year. Should that open the door for John Henry to bring in a new GM after 2023? I'm just wondering how much rope Bloom has. I don't support getting rid of Bloom, not yet anyway, but I'm concerned.
  16. This is a great photo, a team photo of the legendary 2004 Yankees team: https://www.gettyimages.fi/detail/uutiskuva/the-new-york-yankees-pose-for-a-team-photo-during-the-2004-uutiskuva/51779946 I'm thinking of buying this photo and framing it and hanging it on my wall. Hey Jackson, do you have this photo hanging on your wall?
  17. Dom Smith is a guy I've liked for a long time; I am surprised by what has happened to him. I thought he would be a big time producer. I would like to see the Red Sox take a chance on him. The Red Sox have pieces they could trade to the Mets including Vazquez & JD Martinez (the Mets are desperate for a DH). But if the Red Sox aren't prepared to sell and give up on the season, maybe trade Downs or Seabold or R.Hernandez for Smith? Hernandez would be ideal, but the Mets probably don't want him. A Jeter Downs for Smith trade seems fair, both players need to be fixed and maybe a new organization and start could help with that. Downs, Vazquez, and JD Martinez for Smith and a prospect. While I would want a pretty good prospect, I realize that F.Alvarez is off the table.
  18. What year did that happen? My guess is that it happened under Ben Cherrington, he had a habit of spending money recklessly in free agency. I don't think it matters all that much--whatever year you are talking about, the Red Sox probably decided to tank at some point and traded off assets. No team will ever top the 2004 Yankees--what a legendary team, the biggest chokers in the history of sports!!!
  19. I hope so. Hopefully one of the two will be moved at the deadline as the Red Sox begin to rebuild the entire OF for next season. The OF is a complete mess but maybe it can be fixed for 2023.
  20. These are the best teams that didn't win the WS. In a few months, the 2022 Yankees will be added to this list: Best teams that did not win the World Series WWW.MLB.COM In the postseason, anything can happen. And that often means the favorite doesn't win it all. It's a story that has played out many times in baseball history. A juggernaut cruises through the regular season and enters October looking unbeatable, only to meet their match in a short series. There So the 2001 Mariners are the second biggest losers in the history of baseball (I say "second" because the 2004 Yankees are the biggest losers in the history of baseball and will forever be remembered as such), winning 116 games and failing to win the World Series (I'm not counting the 1906 Cubs). The Yankees are currently on pace to win 112 games, not enough to surpass the futility of the 2001 Mariners team, but we can still hope the Yankees get a winning streak together and surpass 116 wins. Imagine this: the Yankees finish with 117 wins and get eliminated in their first playoff round. That would be hilarious.
  21. Why am I tempted to believe that the Red Sox are going to go for it rather than sell off and begin filling the massive holes they have on their roster for 2023. Maybe I'm just overly cynical. I think the Red Sox should start planning for 2023 now; 2022 is over, but will they?
  22. I know who the Red Sox should trade for: Kyle Schwarber. I wish the Red Sox could figure out how to get (and keep) players like him.
  23. I'm not going to argue over Verdugo, he is too irrelevant of a player to argue over. Who knows, maybe he will have a big second half and increase his trade value beyond what it is now. Stranger things have happened--as a CO who doesn't play great defense, he needs to produce more with the bat or he is a liability. He is a negative WAR player offensively this year and that can't continue. It would be great if Verdugo could play RF, but apparently his defense sucks too much for that, and Duran is in the same boat--they are both LFs. If the Red Sox keep Verdugo in LF next year, then I guess Duran is the 4th OF, since you don't want him starting in CF or RF next year. Next year will be interesting. It could be the year that will make or break Bloom.
  24. I know, you love Verdugo, you say it everywhere about how he is going to be great when there are no shifts. But the Red Sox have two LFs, Verdugo and Duran, and the latter is a less expensive option. If the Red Sox can trade Verdugo, trade him, but I don't think teams are going to be knocking down the door to trade for Verdugo, a guy who doesn't play great defense and has an 87 OPS+. In trading for an OF, the Red Sox need to find a starting CF (for 2023) and a starting RF (for 2023), they already have an inexpensive option for LF for next season (Duran).
  25. With Sale's injury (I'm assuming he is out for the rest of the season) I think the Red Sox should be sellers at the trade deadline. If they can't see where this is going, they are totally blind. The other problem: the Red Sox have so many holes for next season. Their OF is in complete disarray with no clear plan. They have nothing at 1b. Bogaerts is a free agent. They need a catcher. They need a DH. I would use the trade deadline as a way to fill a few of these holes to reduce the burden during the offseason. Eavoldi should definitely be traded--he might bring back a quality AAA OF who can start next season in the major leagues. I would shop Bogaerts as well. Shop Vazquez (the Mets?). No one is going to want Verdugo, a non-tender candidate for next season. I would trade away JD Martinez to any team that needs a DH. Interestingly, the Red Sox have a lot of pieces that no one will want. No one is trading for Verdugo, no one is trading for Bradley. No one wants Arroyo, no one wants Dalbec and no one wants Cordero. The Red Sox have a lot of crappy players on their roster. Maybe the Red Sox could trade a bullpen piece, but I would obviously keep Houck and Whitlock. Oh, that's right, Wacha and Hill -- shop them at the deadline.
