Martinez posted 3.2 fWAR and an wRC+ of 139 in 146 games while Minnesota designated hitter Nelson Cruz posted 4.3 fWAR and a wRC+ of 163 in 120 games: https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=dh&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2019&month=0&season1=2019&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2019-01-01&enddate=2019-12-31
  2. If Eduardo Rodriguez were traded, what would the Red Sox starting rotation look like in 2020?
  3. We're apparently in agreement on the answers to the three questions.
  4. A sports franchise probably is not as attractive to outsiders as the team is to its hardcore fans.
  5. Brandon Nimmo has never played third base: https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=nimmo-000bra
  6. As posters on this forum are. Or not.
  7. Ken Rosenthal likely has sources that we don't. Or not.
  8. From The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal under the headline "The many reasons the Red Sox’ head of baseball operations job is a difficult one to fill": https://theathletic.com/1243402/2019/09/26/rosenthal-the-many-reasons-the-red-sox-head-of-baseball-operations-job-is-a-difficult-one-to-fill/

  11. Only Sweet Caroline and Dirty Water. Or not.
  12. Because of its charm, every baseball fan should be encouraged to see one baseball game at Fenway Park. But, because of its lack of amenities, not necessarily a second game.
  13. The recently updated MLB Prospect Watch list has the Red Sox with only Triston Casas at No. 86 while the Yankees have Deivi Garcia at No. 63, Jasson Dominguez at No. 67 and Estevan Florial at No. 83: http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2019?list=nyy
  14. MassLive.com indeed reports that Baseball America has moved the Red Sox farm system up to No. 22 in the BA rankings: https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2019/09/boston-red-sox-top-15-prospects-2019-final-power-hitters-triston-casas-bobby-dalbec-fireballer-bryan-mata-lead-list.html
  15. FanGraphs had the Red Sox farm system at No. 30 in late July: https://www.fangraphs.com/prospects/the-board/2019-in-season-prospect-list/farm-ranking?sort=-1,1&type=100 In February Keith Law reportedly ranked the Red Sox farm system No. 24: https://www.overthemonster.com/2019/2/4/18210329/red-sox-farm-system-rankings-keith-law
  16. Enjoy your break but I look forward to your return. The forum needs your contributions. Warm regards (from The Cooler).
  17. The Red Sox indeed lead the majors in number of pitches: https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/MLB/2019-pitches-pitching.shtml Last year the Red Sox ranked 25th: https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/MLB/2018-pitches-pitching.shtml
  18. The Los Angeles Dodgers have a highly ranked farm system despite winning seven straight National League West titles with at least 91 wins each season: MLB farm system rankings 2019 WWW.MLB.COM There's a reason that every time a new general manager gets hired, he preaches the goal of building a strong farm system. Developing homegrown talent is the most efficient way of constructing a winning big league club, by graduating youngsters to the Majors or using them in trades for more https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/LAD/
  19. So far this year the Astros have handed out 49 losses to American League West opponents. That's not inflating the division's win total. The AL West, like all divisions, has a cumulative .500 record in intra-division games. While the AL East had an overall cumulative losing record entering Friday's games, the AL West was 35 games above .500. But, hey, the Orioles beat the Mariners on Friday.
  20. The Yankees and Rays are a combined 73 games above .500 while the Orioles and Blue Jays are a combined 84 games below .500. The Red Sox fatten their win total playing in an American League East that has a cumulative record under .500 (381-383). In contrast, the stronger and more balanced American League West has a significantly better cumulative record at 400-365.
  21. If the Red Sox were in the National League the Sox might not be eight games above .500. Excluding games against the Orioles and Blue Jays, the Red Sox are under .500, including a 10-10 record against NL clubs.
  22. On that note, MLB Prospect Watch ranks Triston Casas No. 86 on its updated Top 100 prospect list: http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2019?list=prospects
  23. Eduardo Rodriguez has enjoyed a fabulous year but has a wide disparity of values by bWAR and fWAR. The Boston lefthander and Seattle lefthander Marco Gonzales have each made 32 starts this year, Rodriguez totaling 191 innings and Gonzales 189 innings. Rodriguez with 6.2 bWAR has more than doubled the 2.7 bWAR posted by Gonzales. However, Rodriguez with 3.4 fWAR trails Gonzales with 3.6 fWAR. One website gives Rodriguez a surplus trade value of $26.9 million and Gonzalez a surplus trade value of $39.6 million: https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trade-simulator/ Rodriguez is one year younger than Gonzales but has only two more years of team control while Gonzales has four more years of team control.
  24. Boston Globe columnist Alex Speier writes about the 2020 Red Sox starting rotation: https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/redsox/2019/09/18/onball/Mm1wOjPvNDzbjEOushD6HI/story.html?et_rid=1739401789&s_campaign=108stitches:newsletter
