  1. That's too bad Verlander had so much to say. I always thought of him as a classy guy, but apparently that's only when he's winning. What he said about Devers HR might have had a little credence if it had happened in Fenway ('...a 315' fly ball that would be an out anyplace else') but he trashed his own stadium! I have to wonder how many times he got the benefit of the Crawford Boxes during games he won. And BTW, why are they called the Crawford Boxes? Did Carl Crawford hit a HR there once? :confused:b:)
  2. There's so much more to baseball that we commoners have no idea of. These guys are professionals and they have professional coaches working with them. Tiny nuances that we don't even see can make a big difference in their performance. Whether he actually found something or he just thinks he did doesn't matter - it made a difference.
  3. I'm in the running for that "honor" too, cp. You'd think I'd know better, too, given the number of times my naivete has bitten me on the ass.
  4. Apparently you didn't get the memo saying that the Sox aren't that good. The only reason the Sox won 108 games is because they got to fatten up on the rest of the ALE. If they were in the ALW they might not even win their division.
  5. I'm going to keep beating that same drum.... I want it to be the Brewers. At least we could be reasonably certain all of our players would remain healthy going into the future. There's no telling what a cheap-shot artist would do when his attitude is "I just come here to do anything I can to help my team win".
  6. While nothing is certain it does seem like the Sox would have the inside track on resigning Evo. He's here and what's at rest tends to stay at rest, and winning sometimes creates happiness so he may be happy here. I'm not expecting him to take a hometown discount to be here but we'd at least have first shot at him.
  7. I sound younger because we're in different time zones. You're an hour ahead of me. Of course I'm also a hour behind Moon.
  8. These announcers have been talking like this series is over. It's not.
  9. And... we don't have to worry about Craig Kimbrel pitching the 9th!
  10. I'd like to remind everyone of my favorite quote from Winston Wolf. 'Nuf said.
  11. With a 4-0 lead... send him out again for the 7th!
  12. BackBreaker by Betts!
  13. It looks like someone else is f***ing Mr. Upton tonight and it's the Boston Red Sox!
  14. Devers gets it done!!
  15. I know a guy who did that. He had a good paying job, quit, and went to work as a carpenter's helper getting paid under the table. His ex was expecting alimony & got nothing. The downside from my view is that they had two kids and he also didn't have to pay child support so it fell to the city.
  16. Lessons Houston learned that inning: 1) Don't hit the ball to CF. There's no future in it. 2) Moreland scoops up everything within reach.
  17. Here's a flash for you Thunder. If you're planning on this being a baseball + sex trip you're both want to be staying at places with a shower. Unless you want to install one in your car you need to be thinking about frequent motels. Am I being too practical? :-)
  18. Ya. I was thinking recently that JBJ's batting 9th has contributed to Mookie's RBI total. Mookie is 4th on the team in RBI's with 80 and JBJ is 4th on the team in Runs Scored with 76. That's probably not a coincidence.
  19. I've got you by 10+ and I still usually get 7-8 hours/night. That was hard to do last night when I didn't get to bed until 2:00 though - and regularly wake up at 6:30. :-) The good news is that tonight's game should be over before 1:00! Of course when they win I'll have to stay up to listen to the wrap-ups on numerous stations. And I missed my afternoon nap today, too. Ugh. Poor planning.
  20. Injuries? You want to talk about injuries? How about that short guy sitting on the bench with the bad knee? IMO that alone cost the team a few regular season wins (not that it matters) and I'd much rather have a healthy Pedroia out there for the playoffs than anyone we've put at 2B this year. I've asked myself all year how good this team would be if they had Pedroia playing 2B and hitting near the top of the order. I find that scary - to everyone else in MLB.
  21. Both of those saying have a lot to be said for them, even though they may conflict at times.
  22. And I certainly didn't mean to imply that I don't support all 25 also. I'm just callin' 'em like I see 'em. It just goes to what I tell my kids... Don't ask me any questions you may not want to hear the answer to.
  23. As Bill Parcells is being quoted as saying, "All I know is what I see" and what I'm seeing now is that for some reason I wouldn't speculate on Kimbrel is suddenly no more than a mediocre closer.
  24. Comparing Kimbrel to Osuna is a pretty low bar! He's been very fortunate to have not picked up a "L" in his most recent appearances. I can appreciate the perspective of those who want to have Kimbrel's back but it's obvious to everyone that the Craig Kimbrel we're seeing pitch recently isn't the same Craig Kimbrel we saw mid-season. He used to be dominant and now he's depending on the best defensive outfield in baseball or an outstanding play by an infielder to bail him out. Sooner or later that may (probably will) catch up with him.
  25. Kimbrel got bailed out twice last night, once in the 8th by Mookie and again in the 9th by Beni, both with great plays. You closer should not have to be bailed out twice in consecutive innings! When does it become Kimbrel's turn to pick the team up? And does he have the capability to do it now?
