  1. I'm not sure if Kimbrel has control issues or if he's just plain wild but with good enough stuff to fool the hitters. I see a lot of pitches that look good and the hitter will swing at but end up outside the strike zone. A blazing fastball for strikes and an unhittable curve has always been his stock in trade. Whatever it is, it works.
  2. Poor old Jax, he's so conflicted. Would he rather be RIGHT because he picked the Sox to win the WS or would he prefer being HAPPY because he wants the Dodgers to win it all? Life is tough sometimes.
  3. 2's not nearly enough. That's one mistake and a HR. I like at least 5 to be comfortable.
  4. Who's that guy playing third base for us? Is that Brooks Robinson?
  5. Now don't be giving any of those runs back, David.
  6. Don't be giving the rules committee any ideas, Max.
  7. Just another thing we'll disagree on.
  8. And I agree that it was the primary reason. It wasn't my intention to imply in my previous post that the primary reason for releasing Hanley was because he was camera hogging.
  9. I think it's a tough decision. Assuming that sitting Mookie is out of the question - which it should be - sitting JBJ weakens two defensive positions while sitting Beni only weakens one. OTOH, JBJ's recent sample size would tell us that sitting JBJ makes the offense more potent. Cora has to decide what he wants more of - offense or defense. Being maybe JBJ's biggest fanboy here I'd go for the stronger defense but that's just me.
  10. Correct. And it doesn't mean they didn't share it either.
  11. Join the club, Drew! LOL
  12. JH's limit may come down to what his ROI is. Unfortunately none of us know what the bottom line is after the bills are paid and the income is in but you can bet that JH does. Baseball is a funny game and the playoffs are even funnier and there's no guarantee that spending more money will allow a team to move deeper into the playoffs and therefore reap more profits. I see it as being a gamble for JH - how much more is he willing to spend in anticipation of the Sox playing in the WS again? It's possible (but IMO unlikely) that JH only owns the Red Sox as a toy and doesn't care how much money he spends and how much money the team loses. That's possible but I don't see it happening that way.
  13. Let's not go the deflection route. Right now the discussion is about Machado.
  14. ...and sometimes it's the video.
  15. This was exactly my thought when Mookie stole 2nd in the first inning. Machado was kneeling down on the first base side of the bag completely blocking second base from the runner with his lower leg. If Machado doesn't clean up his act sooner or later somebody is going to go into that leg spikes-first in retaliation to something that's happened before. When that happens I'm going to be saying "What goes around comes around".
  16. My guess is that he's getting wrapped as we speak,,,er,, type.
  17. You really need to go back and read what I've posted about WAR in the past couple of months.
  18. I saw an interview with some '04 Sox player (I forget who at the moment) who said that Kevin Millar picked up the nickname of "Red Light" because he seemed to have an innate ability to know when a tv camera was headed his way. Hanley seemed (to me) to be the same way. Every time something good happened and they showed the Sox dugout, there was Hanley, hogging the view with a full frontal grin. It got tiresome.
  19. Pedroia's comment about Machado's cheap shot on him doesn't surprise me in the least. That was Pedey's attitude from Day 1. What's unfortunate is that Pedey's comment that "It's not me, it's them" separated him from his team. The Sox may not treat Machado any differently than they'd treat Sean Casey ("The Mayor") at the start of the series but IMO if there's another incident involving Machado during this series it could get really ugly really quickly.
  20. Did you happen to see the interview the day after he kicked Aguilar in the ankle? He was asked specifically about the incident and he shrugged it off and said he'd do anything he could to help his team win. What better way to help his team win than to put Mookie out of commission? He's already done it to Pedey, Hell, this would be a two-fer for him! You trust him a lot more than I do.
  21. First, thank you for telling me what I'm allowed to do. But strangely, you seem to feel you're not participating in this pissing contest, right? So it must be all me. Hahahaha
  22. Your lips to Cora's ears, Max.
  23. I think it goes without saying that I have no personal experience with the Red Sox clubhouse. I am basing my opinion regarding Hanley on my personal experience regarding how teammates interact. OTOH, I doubt that anyone else here has any more access to the RS clubhouse than I do so their opinion is worth as much as mine. What started this whole ridiculous dust-up is that I said "One of the things that 'bugged me" about Hanley was how he was always preening for the camera and I always wondered how his attention-gathering was 'playing' with the rest of the team. Since there were 24 other players in the clubhouse and everyone has different perspectives it's my guess that some of them didn't find Hanley's antics to be entertaining, especially when he went into his batting slump." I didn't say I was "sure" of anything. That was my take on it and was presented as such If we're going to be limited to what we know and have evidence of this is going to be a pretty boring board.
  24. I don't think it's an entirely bad idea except that I don't want Mookie around 2B with Mr. Cheap Shot bearing down on him. It's a shame that's what the game has come to with Machado but it is.
  25. When a person says "I bet" what they're saying is that they have no specific information to back up what they're saying and what they're saying is nothing more than their strong opinion. I'll say again what I said before, "It's been pointed out to me that we never KNOW what happens in the clubhouse so my opinion is as good as anyone else's and my opinion is that Hanley's attention-craving and its impact on other members of the team was one of the issues involved in his being released."
