  1. It's over. 10-8. Just the way DD drew it up when he was putting together the team.
  2. Dewey was an outstanding fielder. The first of the really great arms whom I can remember.
  3. You can make an excellent case for that. IMO the thing that keeps it from happening is that Manny was Manny.
  4. Brock Holt's ongoing overall contribution may make him the MVP on this team.
  5. I know. I mean, Wade Boggs has had his retired and Dewey hasn't? And I don't mean that as a knock on Boggs.
  6. You're probably right. I'm not the most unbiased person in the world on that topic. Some of my reason I'd consider him is because I give extra 'points' for what he went through with his family at that time and how it didn't affect his playing. Which admittedly isn't fair when considering someone for The Hall.
  7. So true. One can even make a case for that number to be in The Hall. Nice response, too.
  8. I think I said this in a prior game but last year I wasn't concerned if the Sox were behind early in the game because I knew that when we got to their bullpen we'd score more runs. Now we have met the enemy and he is us.
  9. OB & Jerry were just talking about the London trip, the number of runs scored and how well the ball carried. I'm still wondering if MLB sent a double-juiced ball to London to make the game "more attractive" to the Londoners.
  10. It looks like we may need Moon's 12 runs after all.
  11. Agree. The way our starters are going we're going to want people out of the pen who can go multiple innings. This game would be a good chance to stretch Walden out a bit.
  12. IMHO going to a baseball game has now become more about the event and less about the game. I can remember going to Jacobs Field (back when it was The Jake) so long ago that Manny was playing RF there. That was the first time I ever heard rock music being played between innings, and I said "WTF??" Now it's the norm. I'm one of those who thinks there's a time and place for everything. I like going to MiL games with their kiddies games and promos at nearly every game but I also still think that ML Baseball should be all about the game. Unfortunately for many reasons I'm older and also unfortunately I don't reflect the demographic that MLB wants to attract.
  13. Actually I said that the way the ball is carrying now it may be out of here.
  14. I'm still not sure who to blame for that gaffe. On the one hand I want to blame JBJ for not knowing where Chavis is. OTOH I want to blame Chavis for not going full out toward the plate.
  15. That's exactly why I think he's going to be ok. He is what he is - a mediocre pitcher who's an inning eater, and if he's realisitic he's going to get paid like one. If he can do anything at all to reconstruct himself he'll be back.
  16. This is what drives me nutso about WAR, and dWAR in particular. There has to be a formula for determining what a replacement player is and essentially nobody knows what it is. We don't even know the benchmark. In addition the formula for calculating WAR is so long-winded that again essentially nobody knows how to calculate it. For all we know someone may be just throwing a bunch of numbers at us and we (or some of us) are buying into it. And I don't care what anybody says, when someone is rating something the result is subjective.
  17. I may be the only one who hasn't given up on Porcillo. I still think he's going to get it together. He seems like the kind of guy to me who's willing to work hard to improve/remake his game whatever it takes.
  18. You'd trade your mother for the right return though.
  19. BTW, I know a young lady who ran in the "Run to Home Base", several years ago and back then they required a $2500 entry fee to participate.
  20. Did anyone besides me see Leon put his glove behind Grechic (sp?) before he got HBP?
  21. I certainly agree with that^^! but it seems to me that there's been a big drop-off in pitching from the 2018 season. That's what I see as being really odd and makes me think there's more to it than just the pitchers. But again, I don't have the stats to back it up so it's just my perception.
  22. What? How do they determine what a replacement player's value is? Are you suggesting that the "quality" of a replacement player increases because the quality of the ML players does? Doesn't a replacement player have to be worse than the worst player in MLB? How much worse?
  23. I don't have the stats to back this up but it sure does seem like there's less and less good pitching around. The question given the fact that it seems to be baseball-wide is, is it because of the pitchers.. or the new baseball? And BTW, Bill was a very smart guy.
