  1. Yep. 10 days on the IL retroactive to August 11. I don't know what we'd do without some non-troll posting this on TalkSox 2 minutes after it appears on the Red Sox site.
  2. ...and has good opposite field power.
  3. "Hard Candy" sounds like something Eck would say.
  4. Thank you. This is what I've been saying for over a month now. You'll have to admit - and I'm not suggesting any collusion between the Y's and MLB - that this change played right into the hands of the Yankees with their power hitters and short porch.
  5. Stop drooling. He's not going to the Yankees.
  6. That's pretty bold for a for a poster who's been wrong about the Sox many times. At least Notin was clever enough to couch his opinion in "Not unless he takes a pay cut or money gets freed up another way...".
  7. Bizarre, just bizarre thinking. IIRC we've agreed that Mookie gets to balls that JBJ would get to, thereby reducing JBJ's chances and deflating his dWAR. Then we talk about getting rid of JBJ not knowing if Mookie will be back. Whaaaaa? But you're right when you say that, "the focus might shift from expensive elite defense towards significantly cheaper adequate defense." It might not, too, and given DD's propensity for liking solid defensive players (remember, he tried to trade for JBJ when he was in Detroit) I'd be surprised if it happened. DD's no idiot.
  8. Sorry to hear that. I know how attached we get to our dogs. Will he be resting in Maine or in Texas?
  9. That's based on the premise that we can land an equally good defender and I wouldn't part with JBJ until I was sure that player was in the fold. IMO one in the hand is worth two in the bush (In everything but sex). Given that we have a fair idea of what his salary would be in 2020 I'm not in favor of either of those proposals. Ask me again after the Mookie situation gets settled.
  10. That idea works great as long as 1) The Sox can resign him, and 2) they can do it at a lesser cost. If they can't we could very well be looking at losing both JBJ & Betts. I say let him go to arb. It's only one year and by the time that year is up we'll have a better idea of what the Sox status is with Mookie. I know I said recently that people tend to undervalue having JBJ & Mookie in that outfield. Did anyone notice that the tying run for the Sox in last night's game was scored on a ball that either Mookie or JBJ would have made the play on "just to stay loose"?
  11. I know. It felt so wrong to be enjoying that...but at the same time.... so right.
  12. I agree that this happened sooner than I expected. I thought what we had would get us through 2019 and probably until Mookie's contract was up. I still think that was a reasonable expectation. I never denied a downturn, but if this year is what a cliff looks like it's something I can live with. Especially since that banner that says "World Series Champions 2018" flies @ Fenway Park.
  13. I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for gnats.
  14. I hope you're not falling into the trap of "Offense is all that matters". I'm happy enough with ~.700, considering the defense he brings to the game I certainly wouldn't put him in the "Ugly" column. Also, he's hitting at/near the bottom of the order of a team that's close to the top of baseball in runs scored. So... how much is that .700 actually hurting the team? How does that compare to other team's hitters at the bottom of the order? Let's not make him the scapegoat for this poor season. JBJ is not the reason this team is losing games.
  15. Either JBJ or Mookie makes that play!
  16. This writing has been on the wall for some time. In order to win a championship a team has to be able to beat the teams they can beat. IMO this team has the talent to beat (at least) most of the teams in the AL but they're not doing it. Disclaimer: Before someone pounces on my post, please don't take it too literally. I recognize the conflict in it.
  17. Help yourself. I don't have a copyright on it.
  18. Did that shoe pinch a little? Specifically, which part of my post do you take exception to?
  19. I don't have a problem with groups of fans chanting "Red Sox Suck" or "81 years". It's all part of the repartee between the two teams. My issue is with singular fans Yankees fans engaging Red Sox fans (either in person or on a message board) with the intent of ...being obnoxious. They know what they're doing unless they're completely 'tone deaf', and in that case they're just stereotypical Yankees fans. This business of continually pointing out the shortcomings of the Red Sox while in the same paragraph lauding the 'superiority' of the Yankees is exactly what we try to encourage young athletes NOT to do. American Legion baseball has a Pledge that each player is asked to repeat in unison with the other players in the game prior to every playoff game. Two of the points of the pledge are, "I will keep a stout heart in defeat" and "I will keep my pride (under control) in victory". While I confess to being 'old school' I believe that these are lessons that should be taught in sports and should carry forth into our lives. That's not to say that we shouldn't have a little fun with our fandom but we should also know where that line is drawn.
  20. If it happens - and IMO it's still not etched in stone - I can't see Devers and Bogarts being on the block. They along with Beni and Vaz are the players a team gets built around. I don't think JH will relegate the Boston Red Sox to be the Miami Marlins of the past by having a fire sale.
  21. I'll drink to that! Jete was even a welcome part of "the fraternity". Jete was probably the best Yankees fan/poster ever. I see he has an account here but I never see him post.
  22. Read it differently. It's their OBNOXIOUS fans.
  23. As I may have posted here before, one of my favorite bumper stickers of all times says.. It's not the Yankees I hate. It's their obnoxious fans. I'm considering using that as my tag line for the rest of the year.
  24. It's nice to see that you've left the dark side and come over to the side of the enlightened. Welcome!
