  1. I'll say this. It's more encouraging that he's walking on it than it would be if he couldn't walk on it.
  2. Is there anyone other than me who thinks there's a REAL chance that Benintendi gets carried over that wall were it not for the table there that allowed him to regain his balance? Every time I see the play I see Beni's center of gravity beyond the wall and I see him pushing himself off the table to get himself back onto the field.
  3. I always liked Brandon Moss. He's like Bryce Brentz on steroids (in a non-medical, non pharmaceutical way).
  4. YES! This is my problem with it. Sure, the team has saved $150M, and all they had to do to save it was give up their best pitcher. Then the Sox get to go out and spend even more money on a pitcher who may not be as good as Price. Does that make any sense?
  5. I think we can agree that even on his best day Pablo fills the definition of "soft".
  6. That's impressive. It'll be even more impressive if that weight plus more is still off come next March, but I'm skeptical.
  7. Well put. The guy has no idea what he's doing up there. Unless the FO knows something about his progress in the cage or with Chili that we don't know he should be moved down in the order.
  8. The year I retired I went to Fenway, The Trop, Camden Yards, and Yankee Stadium. Kind of a retirement gift to myself. I didn't get to Toronto because of scheduling but it's on my list. I had no problem with parking or traffic at the Trop but the place really is a dump - for a MLB park. The carpet looks worn and anything that makes it unique makes it unique in a negative way. The good news was that I walked up to the gate and bought two lower boxes ~12 rows off the field for (IIRC) $53/each!)
  9. What a conundrum. If Sandoval comes back in shape (and assuming that he doesn't consider "round" to be a shape) and plays well next spring, do we trade him to try to free up some money and take the chance that Moncada is going to be our regular 3B, or do we go with the sure thing and let Sandoval play there all year?
  10. It never occurred to me that Pedey would just hang up his spikes and walk away when his playing days are over. I see him as a coach of whatever part of the game he chooses. He's already helped David Price with his pitching!
  11. I don't see Vaz becoming our backup catcher for the same reason I didn't see Swihart becoming our backup catcher in the pre-Leon days. Both of them are too good to be a backup. Assuming Leon isn't a one-season wonder their best value to the club is as trade bait.
  12. And our closer goes through spells when he can't find the plate with both hands and a flashlight?
  13. No. What they need to do for 2017 is find some sucker/GM to take on his contract so the money can be spent on someone who's not an albatross to the team,
  14. I think you may be giving Farrell a little bit too much credit there.
  15. Pap? A jackass?? No! Say it ain't true!! They guy has been jackass one way or another for his whole career. The difference is that when he was here he was OUR jackass and pitching well so we cut him slack.
  16. This had nothing to do with money or service time and everything to do with option years. If the Sox had brought Beni up and then sent him back down for a certain number of days (IIRC it's 20 days) it would have used up one of his option years. There are now so few days left in the minor league schedules that he could not be there for 20 days - the minor league season would end before the 20 days are up. Option years don't seem like much of an issue for him right now but frequently a better player will be sent down because he has options while a lesser player without options stays with the club. There's a lot of shuffling that goes on there and I didn't want to see the FO give up that flexibility by calling him up and then sending him down for 20+ days and giving up an option year in case it didn't work out for him. My concern was that Beni had never seen AAA and there was a chance he couldn't handle the bigs. I'm glad they were right.
  17. Because it's great strategy!
  18. This is the true issue. People talk about bunting as if it's a sure-fire successful thing. It's not. There's a lot that can go wrong with a bunt. I don't have any numbers on the success rate of bunts but I'd be surprised if it's much more than 60% mostly because too many ML'ers can't bunt.
  19. I'm not concerned about it now. We don't lose that year of control now regardless of what happens to him. I was concerned about it at the time and I still believe that bringing up a player for a one month trial and risking losing a year of control is a legitimate concern. As I said at the time, bring him up but don't send him back. And now it doesn't matter because he can't be sent back down for the requisite 20 days.
  20. I'm not sure about McDonough but IMO he has gotten a lot better since Orsillo left - and at the time I was very opposed to Orsillo's leaving. O'Brien seems to have unlocked Jerry's treasure chest of baseball knowledge and given him permission to distribute the knowledge.
  21. ^^^ Friggin' Troublemaker!^^
  22. Taz is the same thing all over again and the same thing all over again. This is the third consecutive year that he's fallen apart late in the season. In 2014 & 2015 I attributed it to overuse because he was all we had for a while. It may be cumulative overuse in 2016 too, but whatever it is he shouldn't be out there in any 'save situation' and when he IS there he should be on a very short leash.
  23. It sounds like he's pretty well eliminated himself from the Sox with his "requirement" of an extra year on his contract. Or at least I hope he has.
  24. The explanation is in your post. He's proven that he can get AAA players out and he's proven that he can't get Major Leaguers out. Wash, rinse, repeat.
  25. Good insight. Copied and pasted from another post elsewhere from J-bay: Follow Pete AbrahamVerified account ‏@PeteAbe This hamstring injury is starting to unfold like the knee injury did for Rodriguez in sp. training. That was no big deal at the start, too.
