  1. IMO hitting Machado falls into the category of 'don't ask, don't tell". I don't believe that Farrell would actually tell Barnes to go out there and hit him with a pitch, but I do believe that Barnes knew that Farrell would cover his ass if he did hit Machado. I can make a pretty good case for this either way, Case #1 - John Farrell isn't going to make himself complicit in hitting Machado by telling Barnes to do it. At least not when Farrell knew that the "code" demanded payback for spiking Pedey. Doing that would hang Farrell's ass out too far at a time when he didn't have to have his ass out there at all. Case #2 - No player would go against the wishes of his manager and do something that would assuredly result in a suspension and probably a fine. That could cost the team a game (or several) and would show the pitcher as being immature, putting his own beliefs above the team. I'll say this: I don't think Farrell told Barnes to NOT hit him! Do you think Dempster was told to hit ARod?
  2. I've always wondered if intentionally plunking a batter is something that's spoken about in the dugout or if it's just something that a pitcher takes upon himself to do but with tacit approval of the manager and the rest of the team.
  3. Very true...nice observation. I watched the interview with Barnes on the post-game show that night and he was very carefully measuring what he said. I got the feeling that he wanted to say, "Yeah. I was trying to hit him but the damn ball got away from me. I feel terrible about how close it came to his head. I would NEVER throw at someone's head." Maybe it's because that's what I wanted to 'hear', but it was the impression I got FWIW.
  4. This whole discussion about Pedey and how he handled the situation would have been more appropriate in the SOB Thread. Whether you think Barnes threw at Machado's head or not you have to admit that Barnes had the stones to throw at him.
  5. Man... I walk away from this board for a few hours and when I come back I find that...... nearly everyone has the same thought about how Pedey handled this that I do! Look, I like the guy (as much as you can 'like' someone you've never met). I like his grit and his guts. But I have a real problem with the fact that during the actual moments while his teammates were supporting him he was busy throwing them under the bus. If someone on that team didn't have the balls to confront him about this then I'm disappointed in the lot of them. (but I know we'll never know if anyone did). JMO!
  6. I like Workman too. I always have. What's not to like about a player named Work-Man? ] But I'd agree with your last sentence whether I liked Workman or not.
  7. I have no problem with that. Actually I'm a pretty easygoing guy. But when a person admits that he's been stalking me and continues to do it I'm going to call him out on it. To do anything else would be condoning it. End of story.
  8. Pretty f***ing simple. There's a history of my being stalked and I proved that the stalker admitted stalking me. I'm now sick of it.
  9. ?? What's a Steve? :-) ..but I'm sure that whomever he might be he would thank you for the nice comment.
  10. I'd pay to see that!!
  11. No. I think it's a little more than that, and I think you think so too. Otherwise how would you reconcile what you said today with what you said some time ago on "BDC2" Aug 5, 2016 at 4:04pm dannycater said: notin has been on my ass going back to BDC. I'm basically sick of his holier than thou attitude... Notin’s reply: Huh? On your ass? Unless you're andrewmitch or S5 (now s5dewey) or Schumpetr's Ghost, hardly the case.... Also I feel really bad for not mentioning georom and ADG. And there was another Serial Whiner whose name began with "A" I used to ride a lot, but I stopped when I noticed every time he responded to me he was polite and even complimentary Probably you have an "alternate definition" of stalking than I do, but when someone admit's that they're intentionally 'on my ass', or they "ride people a lot" I'd consider that to be stalking.
  12. I wanted to think that was the time to trade him and also wanted to believe that he had a high trade value but deep down inside I knew what every GM knows - That the reason he made the AS Team is because the Sox had to send someone and they had nobody else remotely appropriate to send. Sad, but true.
  13. Unfortunately..... I agree with ^^this post^^. Mine was wishful thinking, I guess. :-( This goes back to my not understanding why they signed Sandoval in the first place. IMHO the guy manning 3B for a contending team should be able to carry at a dWAR (there I go using WAR. Ugh) of at least 0.0 - something he hasn't done since 2011 and has done only three times in his career. In addition, my being a "solid up the middle, power at the corners" guy he should also be able to carry an OPS of ~.800, a goal he last attained in 2012. And all of this for $17.6MM, Double UGH.
  14. Boy, we're going to disagree on this - on both counts! I've watched that replay a dozen times and I'm still not convinced that Machado's front foot even touched the bag - and if it did it wasn't enough contact to alter the path of the leg. If one is going to believe that then they have to believe that Machado was trying to hit the very top edge of the bag - which is something a runner never does. Instead they aim for the front of the bag and use the leg to cushion their momentum upon contact. Machado's slide was calculated to take him across the bag to where Pedey was on the back side of that bag. The front side was completely open for Machado to approach it at either side and instead he chose to go for the spot that was directly in line with Pedey's leg and would take him over the bag. I thought it was a cheap shot at the time and I still do. In addition, I refuse to believe that Barnes was deliberately throwing at Machado's head. If you watch his arm it looks like he was trying to come inside to hit Machado but he lost his release point and the ball got away from him and went up.
  15. This makes things look worse all the time re: Sandoval. With this proposal Pablo is carried on the roster only for times when he can play 1B (something he hasn't even attempted to do yet) and only against RH pitchers. If this turns out to be what the FO would think is viable I hope they just dump Sandoval by whatever means and give the 1B job to Sam Travis. At least Sam has played 1B before! And well.
  16. Well handled!
  17. and you haven't addressed your continued stalking me all the way back to BDC.
  18. Agree. I didn't have a warm and fuzzy feeling when Abad came into the game. And my feeling was even worse when he left, except I was thinking that maybe this would be the LAST time I have to see him.
  19. Apparently Pedey and Machado are "friends" - whatever that means in this situation - and Pedey wanted to be sure Machado still likes him. Isn't that sweet? Ugh. This can't sit well with the clubhouse when they stick up for Pedey and he disavows any responsibility for what happened. (OK, maybe responsibility isn't the right word but he's involved in that thing someplace and he needs to acknowledge that rather than throw his teammates under the bus). I appreciate Pedey's mature perspective, but if he thinks his friend would go into him spikes-high maybe he needs to hang out with a better class of people.
  20. or maybe you're just being your usual condescending.
  21. I DO wish we could 'upvote' certain posts!
  22. I agree with everything except the first sentence. If Barnes had hit MM in the head and put him out for even a few days then the person who hit MM is no better than MM.
  23. Pedey is pretty f***ing generous toward Machado who just a couple of days ago went into him 'spikes high' .
  24. So is this going to get personal? Are you going to start stalkng me again?
