  1. Are you aware that this catcher of ours that you seem to have a hard-on for is hitting .290??
  2. And Bautista hits a HR while Austin is talking about Maria's Greek Kitchen. These promos are getting out of hand. :-(
  3. Jeez...This is a tough crowd. can we at least wait until the game is 2/3 over before we start waving white flags?
  4. NO matter what, after the ESPN fiasco last night OB sounds good to me tonight!
  5. I think the appropriate phrase to answer that is "NFI".
  6. I agree with his holding very little value. He'd be a throw-in in a deal for someone we want. However, IMO there's enough potential there that I'd hate to see him get away. I'd be more than willing to have his bat on the bench to use as the DH frequently assuming we don't go with the Designated DH next year.
  7. Two words. "Trade Bait". It's too bad he couldn't/wouldn't take a deal like Butler did where he'd become a FA but re-sign with the Sox to a minor league deal. I'm still not sold on Leon being better than Swihart once Swi gets back up to speed.
  8. The only bright spot I see in that lineup is Sam Travis, and that's just because I want to see him get a solid chance to play. I just keep telling myself that this is baseball and it seems like the unexpected happens at least half the time. So who knows what will happen tonight?
  9. Thank you. I had my first foray into starting the game thread last night and we all know how my mojo worked out.
  10. And did I leave out childbirth?
  11. I can't possibly know as much about field hockey, curling, rugby, or any sport I've never played as do the people who have played them. Truth.
  12. For me football doesn't start until the Red Sox are eliminated from the playoffs. Until then I'll watch both but if there's a conflict I'll be watching the Sox.
  13. ancestry.com!
  14. I see them as having different roles in the booth, trying to bring different perspectives. Boone brings the game from the player's perspective. As much as I detest AB for that HR, I think he does a respectable job of filling that role. But keep in mind that he's a Yankee first and has the same bias against the Sox that we have against him. Mendoza is supposed to bring the perspective of the "knowledgeable fan", a/k/a someone who's never played the game but has read a lot about it and tries to keep up to date on what's happening. I'll give to her that she's up to date but what she says often comes across as exactly that - up to date with what she's read but with no real substance.
  15. To reiterate what's been said here before, I believe it's a part of the team strategy to take a lot of pitches in an attempt to get the starter out of the game. That works fine as long as that pitcher doesn't throw a lot of first pitch strikes but when he is throwing strikes it's often necessary to make what's called an "in-game adjustment". That's something hitters are supposed to make but apparently the dugout isn't supposed to. :-(
  16. Spud doesn't discriminate against women - just announcers who bring nothing to the booth.
  17. ESPN's bias is so obvious. When they start an in-game interview with Farrell the first question they ask is about the Yankee pitching, then later when they start an interview with Girardi the first question they ask is about Yankee pitching...again. I've got a list of grievances against ESPN as long as your arm, not the least of which is this business of starting the game early because the Yankees "have a day game tomorrow". And they have to make that long trip to ... BALTIMORE! Who f***ing cares? I don't see them altering their tv schedule for any other team! I swear to God... and I may have said this before, but I think the Yankee clubhouse has a blanket hung up there with a hole in it and they all wait for the ESPN people to show up after the game.
  18. My bad. I thought it was a 2 strike pitch.
  19. And everything after that is "unearned".
  20. Exactly true. Holbrook made a lousy call on a ball/strike and it cost the Sox dearly. If that pitch had been a strike the Sox would have been out of the inning. Holbrook 1, Red Sox 0.
  21. No comment about the ball/strike call that got Willis thrown out?
  22. ESPN at work. They're doing an expose on Devers and start it by mentioning that he was born on the same day the Yankees won the World Series. ESPN sucks so bad.
  23. Ok.. we're on the board. Now we need a quick shut-down inning and come back at them.
  24. How do you take a 2-strike pitch in the middle of the plate?
  25. Good ol' Sanchez!! Lets another one through the 5-hole!
