My position was and continues to be that neither viewpoint is completely right nor completely wrong.
I believe in the statistics to a point but I also believe that one cannot rule out "the human element", and when you acknowledge the human element what are you acknowledging is the emotional ability to 'turn it up'.
I've played on several teams that were pretty ordinary until something happened to ignite the team. When that happened we became pretty darn good and when it didn't happen we lost. Sometimes all a team needs is that spark. That spark can be a fielder making a great play, a couple of "random" hits or, in the case of what David Ortiz did, a fired-up dugout speech. The results of those things is the 'human element" we speak of.
I fail to see how anyone could have watched yesterday's game and can believe that the six run 7th inning was all the result of randomness.
