  1. I hear you mal, but I hear everyone else too. Ortiz for BENCH COACH!
  2. I don't care if the guy has an OPS of 2.00 WRISP. Stand for something!!
  3. My general take on the season is this, and keep in mind that I'm "old school" and therefore believe in some of the old adages. Our pitching staff was better than "good enough" so that's not an issue. We were not "solid up the middle". Catching and CF were solid defensively but Bogaerts is nothing more than a serviceable defensive SS and never has been. His plus was his offense which became mediocre this year. 2B could not have been called any better than mediocre with Pedey missing 1/3 of the season and during those times was replaced with more mediocrity. Power has to come from the corner positions and DH and we didn't get real power from any of them. Add in the defensive nightmare that was 3B and you find a seriously flawed team. IMHO the biggest reason the Sox won their division is because it took so long for the Yankees to gel. And I gagged when typing that. This team has too many question marks going forward. Will Beni find more power? (Yes) Will JBJ find more power? (Who cares, if he can play CF the way he does.) Will Will Mookie find more power? (Great defensive player who can hit for a good average and at least acceptable power) Will Devers learn to play defense? (Who knows? And to make this situation even worse, Butterfield may go because with Farrell did) Will Bogaerts improve on either side of the ball? (Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe what we saw this year is who he is, or maybe he was injured. Will Pedey ever be the Pedey we knew and loved? (Nope, so get over it) Is Moreland a 1B for a championship team? (Not at all) Will the real Hanley Ramirez please stand up? So of the nine players listed I see five question marks with negative or unknown answers. Here's what I know for sure. 3B is still a problem. It looked better with Devers there only because the guys before him set the bar as low as they did. 1B is a problem because we need some power from this team and IMO the easiest/best way to find it is at 1B. Let's start there. Martinez may not completely solve our problems but him or a player like him is a start. I want to see Devers playing baseball somewhere all winter @ 3B. I don't give a s*** if he's only 20 years old. It's time to find out if he's going to be able to handle that position and deal with what we learn. I am ambivalent about Bogaerts. He's mediocre and can be replaced with more mediocrity. If we can include him in a trade landing a power hitter and a(nother) mediocre shortstop, go for it. It improves the team and also gets rid of a Bora$$ client. It would be acceptable to have a light hitting solid defense UIF and we've got a couple of those in the minors.
  4. Am I the only poster who's still absolutely outraged about Machado's cheap shot on Pedey that essentially cost him this season and possibly his career?? And now some people want to trade for Machado??????????????? If a guy beat up one of your family members would you then hire him to do some carpentry for you because "he does good work"? f*** Machado. Sideways with a porcupine.
  5. I think all of us BDC people are feeling a bit paranoid right now.
  6. Yeah, I like that plan best.
  7. It sounded vaguely familiar.. Former Red Sox farmhand and Pawtucket Shuttle rider Paxton Crawford said he once fell out of bed and cut himself on some broken glass. http://sonsofsamhorn.com/baseball/majorleaguebaseball/al-east/boston-red-sox/red-sox-players-plenty-zs/
  8. Fans? Miami has FANS???
  9. The point is that you're right, it's not our money. It's John Henry's money and we're trying to temper our expectations to conform with what we think he will spend.
  10. And we kept hearing that it's just a day or two, then just a week or two, then it became almost the entire season. If that were my arm/shoulder in question I'd be thinking the word 'incompetent' would be appropriate.
  11. This. This is pretty much what I was thinking. One sure way to be disliked in Boston is to become manager of the Red Sox. If I were David Ortiz there's no f'ing way I'd get involved in that. But I would like to see him as bench coach!
  12. I have no idea what other teams medical staffs look like, but I do remember being told initially that Buchholz injury from holding his baby was day-to-day and he missed nearly an entire season.
  13. Really? After all the compliments I've given your for your avatars ?
  14. Calling them "issues' is being generous. Imo the medical staff borders on incompetent.
  15. I wasn't amazed that it happened. Like most here I was ambivalent about it. What surprised me was the timing. I'd always heard that there was an ongoing request from MLB that teams didn't make personnel changes until the WS is over as those changes divert the interest from the games. It'll be interesting now to see if the Sox have the courage to raise ticket prices again.
  16. Holy s***. I didn't expect this.
  17. If our intention is to put Stanton in the OF wouldn't it make more sense to trade Beni for Stanton, straight-up? But again, only of Stanton would give up the opt-out clause.
  18. Ya, That's the one, and it's why I don't want that guy anywhere near the Boston Red Sox. Call me Mary Poppins-ish if you like but I see no place for a loose cannon cheap shot artist anywhere in baseball and I certainly don't want the Red Sox paying him.
  19. And moving Betts there isn't a viable option since right field in Fenway requires someone with the skills to play CF. I want to carry the same outfield into 2018 that was there in 2017. It's not at all unreasonable to think that all three will improve offensively and out defense is probably as good there as any team in baseball.
  20. Where I worked If a person screwed up too frequently they didn't get fired or have their pay changed. They got "reeducated". In the case of umpires it could mean being sent back to the minors until their job performance improved.
  21. I assume you are (or were) a member of the MLBPA. What would be the union's position be on Stanton opting out or negotiating away the opt out clause?
  22. I confess to having a man-crush on JBJ's defense but I understand those who want to trade him. MO..and obviously only mine.. is that JBJ will be in Boston next year if only because DD has that same man-crush I have. DD tried to trade for JBJ when he was in Detroit.
  23. and it's also why I want to get rid of the opt-out clause.
  24. That's true, and it's why I want to make that offer NOW. Strike while the iron is hot!
  25. Not a chance! I'm a big fan of defense and therefore JBJ fan.
